The character I have always looked up to is Miss Carrie Bradshaw from "Sex and the City." Although it may seem typical that a 21-year-old is infatuated with the journalist from New York City with the three best friends and most legendary wardrobe in all of television, but is there more to the story? She does more than just represent a fierce outfit and show the elegance of sipping on cosmopolitans with her best friends in the Big City. Her voice hits home for me, and I’m sure for a lot of other girls, as well. There is something magical about a girl who speaks the truth about love and life. She writes down her story, and it truly inspires me. A story isn’t told only by writing down just the exciting things happening but it is the fact that she writes down her struggles, fears, and hardships. She doesn’t always have a solution or answer, but she reminds me that life is hard and not everything can go as planned…but that is OK. Her thoughts are what many may think but not speak and they raise awareness to some silly things people do yet should not do. The point is, Carrie Bradshaw’s voice should be heard. Here are some of her truest statements that I am sure can benefit others reading because in the end, Carrie Bradshaw is real.
1. “And why can we see our friends perfectly but not ourselves?” Why is it that when we look in the mirror we see flaws and all but admire others more than ourselves? Never be so hard on yourself. Strength lies within.
2. “No matter how hard we look do we ever see ourselves clearly?” In order to figure out what we want in life we must first ask the question "who am I?" Sometimes figuring out who we are is the hardest part.
3. “One reason people still risk the possible horror of a first date is the possible magic of the first kiss.” The fear of the unknown is bittersweet. A first date is 50/50. Sometimes you just need to take the risk.
4. “After he left, I cried for a week and then I realized I do have faith. Faith in myself, faith that I would one day meet someone…who would be sure that I was the one.” The pain of losing someone you love is the worst ache of all, but with the pain comes the strength to trust and love yourself. It gets better. After all, some things fall apart so better things can fall together.
5. “And we were dressed head to toe in love, the only label that never goes out of style.” Cheers to the most beautiful label in the world love. It shows in your eyes, smile, and actions.
6. “Shopping is my cardio.” Enough said.
7. “Maybe you have to let go of who you were to become who you will be.” The past is an anchor holding you down, so let go and grow into the person you are supposed to be.
8. “I am someone who is looking for love. Real love. Ridiculous, inconvenient, consuming, can’t-live-without-each-other love." You have to believe that unconditional love exists and never settle for anything less than butterflies.
9. “The universe may not always play fair but at least it’s got a hell of a sense of humor." Things may not work out the way you want, but in the end it’s meant to be that way and you can learn to laugh about it. Believe me, you'll end up thanking yourself.
10. “Life gives you lots of chances to screw up, which gives you just as many chances to get it right.” That’s life, but it is all about the risks you take.
