10 Highlights From Michelle Obama's Powerful DNC Speech
Daily Dot

If anyone else was watching the DNC, then you know First Lady Michelle Obama SLAYED in her speech. Some are calling it not only the best speech of this political cycle, but possibly the best speech in recent history. I hope Melania Trump was taking notes. That, my friends, is how you deliver to the needs of the American people. No "copy and paste" involved. Here are several highlights from that amazing support for Hillary Clinton's campaign, and for the American people in general.

1. The support for Hillary

Michelle Obama has not always been on HIllary's side. When President Obama was campaigning against the presumptive Democratic nominee in 2008, the current FLOTUS called out the former one. She said that if Hillary was unable to run her own house, how would she be able to run the White House. That might have been a little below the belt, but the two have apparently mended their relationship. Clinton has reportedly called Obama several times to offer her advice about raising young daughters amidst the craziness that is the political world. Both women have raised fantastic daughters during their time in the White House. Hillary raised Chelsea and Michelle has raised Sasha and Malia.

2. The "I know from experience"

Not only was the speech an endorsement for Clinton, but it also was a subtle attack on Trump and his thin skin. She notes that the person chosen for president needs to be calculated and calm in high-pressure situations. Although, according to recent reports, Trump's campaign has already asserted that if Trump were to become president, his VP would be the most powerful in history - handling both domestic and foreign policies. Begging the question, how do we feel about a President Pence?

3. The "we used to be enemies, but I always respected her"

This essentially goes along with the first point. The two women were definitely on opposite sides in 2008. Michelle, however, noted in her speech last night that what has impressed her about Clinton is her poise and perseverance. Clinton will allow all future sons and daughters to "take a woman being president for granted."

4. The "please stop now"

There's nothing like disappointing your mom. Disappointing FLOTUS is 10 times worse. Michelle's plea for an end to the violence and madness made us all stop and listen.

5. Speaking for unity

While the GOP and their subsequent convention were all about separation (despite their claim for unity), Michelle set the tone on the first night of the DNC: the democratic party should stand for unity. This is especially important now because Bernie Sanders supporters are becoming more and more restless with their party and the presumptive nominee.

6. An attack on Trump, without ever saying his name

Boom. We're great just the way we are.

7. Another subtle stab to the GOP nominee

This very much feels like my mom telling me to ignore the haters and take the high road. Twirl on those haters.

8. Again for the cheap seats!

Never forget.

9. The reminder that progress is what makes us great

Not only this, but Obama invoked the image of her beautiful, intelligent black daughters playing on the White House lawn with their dogs. If that doesn't make you well up, I'm not sure what will. Our decision come November is not just for us, but for children. Children deserve to hear rhetoric that is positive and inspiring, not doom-ridden.

10. Mic. Dropped.

No words. Michelle Obama for president 2020.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
