Growing up with a big extended family is definitely a unique experience. From remembering names, how you're related, and a seemingly endless number of birthdays, it really can be a lot of work. But in the end, the perks always outweigh the trouble. Here are ten things that everyone who has a big extended family can relate to.
1. You lose track of how many cousins you have
Cousins are the blessings I'm too lazy to count, so I usually stop at twenty. And it certainly doesn't help that you get one or two new ones every year.
2. There's no paper big enough to draw your family tree
In the end, your sixth-grade family tree project turns into a 45-minute powerpoint presentation complete with graphs and 3D models.
3. You can find family anywhere in the world if you just look hard enough
Family reunions end up being like U.N. meetings and devolve into arguments about who has the better bacon.
4. You've pretty much given up on introducing them all to your friends
You know you've got a true friend when they can keep track of at least a couple of them though.
5. When you travel together, you tend to cause a scene wherever you go
It's like the gathering of aunts and uncles somehow makes them want to be even louder and obnoxious. But there's no amount of subtle scooting away that can truly distance you from them.
6. The opportunity to see each other adds to the marriage pressure
I'm 19, PLEASE STOP.
7. Your family reunions are LIT
Whoever said old people aren't fun clearly haven't met your aunts and uncles, because you know they go harder than most of the kids.
8. You might not see them as often as you like
Because let's face it, who can really afford all those plane tickets?
9. And you miss them like crazy
Nothing's worse than saying bye after making great memories with people you rarely see. But maybe the reason you love them so much is because you can spend just a little bit of time with them and still make great memories.
10. But no matter what they'll always have your back
Your family are the ones that are rooting for you through thick and thin. So having more of them just means that you have that much more support in your corner.
