What does it mean to be an indie make up brand? It means that you make and sell your products on their own. They are not sold with big companies like Sephora or Ulta. Everything is sold from your own website and yourself exclusively. An example of a brand that is Indie would be Jeffree Star Cosmetics or Morphe, even though they have their own store front, they only sell Morphe. Some brands that aren't independent would be Benefit, Cover Girl, or Kat Von D. But just like any brand there are pros and cons to buy from an independent brand.

Some of the pros can include more individualized service and one on one communication. There is also unique packaging and products, more bold and unique colors. You might also get some extra freebies like stickers and nice samples that they add in the packages to try and get you to promote the brand more. However there are some cons, such as the order time maybe slower, the product might not always be up to top quality, and because you are most likely buying online, no swatching. But if you are still interested in trying some indie brands here are a great 10.

A personal favorite and constantly growing and cruelty brand by former musician Jeffree Star.

4. Sugarpill

Cute and quirky mostly vegan makeup brand.

5. Make Up Monster Cosmetics

Vegan, cruelty free and totally adorable with some bold colors at a reasonable price.

6. BH Cosmetics

Some of the most unique pallets I've ever seen, and a popular brand that is super affordable.

7. Medusa's Make Up

Cruelty free, amazing colors and affordable.

8. Costal Scents

The best place to go to be able to put together custom pallets for an affordable price!

9. Melt

The best for unique but also natural colors for lips and eyes.

10. Morphe

A well known and coveted brand that doesn't let the fame go to its head and still offers great prices.
