I am a lipstick fanatic. I own over 20 different kinds of lipstick, which is a lot considering how poor I am. In my drawer is everything from drugstore lippies to high-end lippies. I definitely have my own preferences, but if you are someone just getting into lipsticks, let me tell you my likes and dislikes.
Liquid lipsticks are all the rage right now. They should be, because of their staying power. I particularly enjoy liquid lipsticks and have quite a few. From what I have in my collection, these lipsticks all have their pros and cons. Colourpop liquid lipsticks come in a satin formula and a matte formula. The satin formula does transfer, but I don’t really mind. The color is so pigmented and I swear that one dip inside the tube will cover both top and bottom lip (unless you have really big lips). The lipstick is also very moisturizing, which is another component I look for in a lipstick. I hate it when my lips look like raisins by the end of the day. With that said, let me tell you about the matte formula. Oh god, I really don’t like it. I don’t know if it’s just the lipstick I received, but this is the most drying formula I have ever used. It goes on streaky (but that could be the color), and it feels like my lips just stepped into the Sahara desert. When I talk or move my lips, the color flakes off, and it is a pain in the ass to take off. I had to rub my lips until the skin came off in order for that color to come off (not literally, but that’s what it felt like). I don’t see the hype with it, but I really wanted to. All in all, for Colourpop liquid lipsticks, the satin formula wins over the matte formula.
Another lipstick I have is the Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick. This lipstick is really nice. The color is poppin’ and the formula is one that stays on all day. Although it can be drying on the lips throughout the day, it won’t budge so if you don’t like touching up, you don’t have to.
The Tarteist lip paint by Tarte is also one of my favorites. I don’t apply the whole thing to my mouth at once, but instead, I dab three dots on my upper and lower lip and I use my fingers to blend it out. I found out that this way, it dries a lot quicker and it’s a lot neater (lip brushes help too). I like this one a lot, but unlike the Kat Von D one, it does need to be retouched throughout the day. It can get dry after a few hours, but it is still a really good formula and I would recommend it.
The last ones I want to tell you about are my Revlon HD matte liquid lipsticks. They are a bit more expensive than the Colourpop ones, but still cheaper than the Kat Von D or Tarte lipsticks. The Revlon HD mattes are so good. Even though they are not matte like the label says, it is still a really pretty lipstick. I have two colors and both of them are nice and easy to put on. If you’re looking for a cheap alternative, this would be something I would also recommend.
If you’re looking for some normal tube lipsticks, my first suggestion is MAC. They have a wide range of lipsticks, from sheer to pure pigment. They’re really price efficient, compared to some other brands that you find at Sephora. The lipstick goes on very smoothly and the wear is comfortable. The vanilla smell is a plus, if you don’t want your lipsticks smelling like chemicals.
Aside from liquid lipsticks, Colourpop originally sold lippies. They are all five dollars each and are freaking comfortable to wear. The color payoff is awesome and I mean for that price, it is one that should be tried. They have different formulas to choose from as well, so you can choose the one you like the most.
There are so many lipsticks to try out and wear. My advice is to do some research on the ones that catch your eye and then see if you really want to by it or not. Lipsticks are so fun and can really change up the look. If buying $20+ lipsticks are not the case for you yet, there are plenty of drugstore lipsticks that are worth trying out without spending too much. Makeup is all about creativity and changing up the look. Go out and try some lipsticks on!
