10 Fun Things To Do In Wisconsin

We’ve come to one of the hottest parts of summer, and f you’re like me, you might be a little more sluggish in the summer heat. I don’t prefer the heat and humidity, but what I hate even more is sitting in my apartment doing nothing all day. For those of you who’ve lived here for a while, you have probably fallen into the trap of believing that all of Wisconsin is boring, and that there’s absolutely nothing to do. Well, here are 10 awesome things you can do in Wisconsin this summer, so you can get out of the house and actually enjoy your summer!

  1. Go Camping

With the abundance of lakes, forests, and beautiful scenery that Wisconsin has to offer, there’s never a lack of camping opportunities available- no matter which part of Wisconsin you’re from. Devil’s Lake State Park, in Baraboo Wi, is a great option if you’re like me, and you’re looking for adventure, like hiking, cliff jumping, and swimming.

2. Hit up the Renaissance Fair

Going to a Renaissance fair might seem a little tacky if you’ve never been before, but the one that Wisconsin has every year in Bristol is actually a ton of fun- no matter how old you are. You get to dress up in old-timey clothes, order a massive chicken drumstick to eat, and enjoy going back in time for a day. It’s a fun little getaway adventure that can be super fun if you get a group of friends to go along, and it’s pretty cheap if you’re on the fence about it, so you’re not really losing anything by trying it out!

3. Make a Trip to Door County

If you’re looking for a multiple day trip, but don’t want to spend a ton of money, head to Door County. You can rent a cabin, go camping, or stay in a cute bed and breakfast, and there are a lot of cheaper options so you won’t break the bank. The nice thing about Door County is that there’s really something for everyone. Go cherry picking, swimming, shopping, and a ton of other fun stuff- and enjoy cherry flavored everything.

4. Go to the Zoo

This is a no-brainer for a fun summer activity, and it’s something you’ve got to do at least once this summer. There are a lot of great local zoo’s all over Wisconsin, but head to Milwaukee if you’re looking for a bigger zoo, with all the animals you could imagine. Deyoung Family Zoo is also extremely worth checking out, with animal encounters and a lot of really unique experiences- even though this is isn’t actually in Wisconsin, it’s so close that it is definitely an easy option.

5. Go to a Sports Game

Both football and baseball start later in the summer, so Lambeau Field and Miller Park Stadium are amazing ways to spend your days off. If you don’t root for Wisconsin teams, just wait until your favorite team comes to play here. My boyfriend is a Cubs fan, so we just go to their games here when they play against the Brewers.

6. Go to the Local Farmer’s Market

Being able to go to my farmer’s market is probably one of my favorite things about summer. There’s always amazing food, interesting people, and cheap produce. Something about waking up early and making your way down the aisles of food and merchandise is so fun, and quite unique.

7. Go to an Adventure/Sports Park

If it’s just too hot to be outside, but you can’t stand being cooped up in the house any longer, head to a sports park and go crazy. Most cities in Wisconsin have a few places you can go to ride go karts, play mini-golf, practice your swing in batting cages, and- my personal favorite- play lazertag. Even though this is a pricier option, it’s a great way to get active in an air conditioned facility.

8. Go to a Concert

Going to a concert is a summer-must, and with two of the biggest music festivals in the world- Summerfest and Country U.S.A- and plentiful concert arenas throughout the state, it’s not hard to find an awesome concert to go to this summer. Local artists are always playing in bigger cities, and there are A-list concerts going on all summer, so buy your tickets now.

9. Go to the EAA

Anyone even remotely close to the Oshkosh area is familiar with the EAA Airventure Museum, and it’s a place that I grew up visiting with my dad every summer. If you’ve never heard of it, it’s a large aeronautical museum which features all kinds of amazing planes, helicopters, and other artifacts. It’s a fun day trip year-round, but I recommend going to their huge summer air show. People from all over the world fly in to this week-long presentation, and there are amazing things to do and see.

10. Head to the Capitol

Seeing Madison and visiting the capitol building is a popular school trip that most people from Wisconsin have been on before, but if you’ve not been in a while, it’s a fun trip to make. The building is extremely beautiful and interesting, and Madison is a fun city to spend the day in. If you do go, make sure to stop in at Ian’s Pizza and get a slice of their famous macaroni and cheese pizza- you won’t be disappointed.

There you have it- ten super fun things to do in the great ol’ cheese state this summer. No state is really as boring as it seems, you just have to get out of the house and find some great places to go to and fun things to see and do. Take advantage of at least a few things Wisconsin has to offer this summer.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
