10 Disney Movies to Watch for Every Kind of College Stress

College is stressful, and sometimes you just need some Walt Disney level luck (or some perfectly animated advice).

10 Disney Movies to Watch for Every Kind of College Stress

No matter how old I am, I will never be too old to settle in to watch whatever Disney movie is on TV, on Netflix, or honestly on anything that can play on my screen. I find that at my most stressed, Disney movies are usually a good destressor, because at this point, if we are all honest, we all already know the words to every song. In other ways, college is super stressful, pretty much the opposite of Disney movies. To get your zen on, watch these Disney movies when you are feeling stressed about something, and need a little bit of inspiration and relaxation.

When you're hard work seems to be getting you nowhere...

"If you do your best each and every day, good things are sure to come your way."

Watch The Princess and The Frog. Mama Odie speaks the truth in her jazzy tune, "Dig a Little Deeper." Maybe you don't know exactly what you want out of your life right this second; many of us don't. But if you look inside yourself, and determine what doesn't make you happy, you can see that hard work is going to pay off, even if it doesn't look like it will. Tiana knew what she wanted, but that didn't stop her from doubting herself when things went haywire. Prince Naveen thought he wanted money, but it's clear by the true Disney ending that what he really wanted was love.

When you just can't seem to get the grade...

Watch Cinderella. How many of us wish we had a fairy godmother to fix our grades at any point in college. When a class only has three grades, two midterms and the final, it makes sense that if one goes bad we are praying for the help of any magical entity to make the grade an A. Of course, Cinderella just wanted to go meet her prince charming at the ball and we would like to avoid meeting the professor at office hours to beg for extra credit to save our grade. Watch a little Cinderella to encourage yourself that no matter how many grades tear you down (much like Cinderella's beautiful dress), there is always going to be a little magic to match how hard you try.

When you are worried about having to make new friends in your classes in the new semester...

The one movie guaranteed to make you cry before Russell even comes into the picture.

Giphy

Watch Up. First of all, this movie is a classic story of friends who definitely shouldn't be friends that end up defeating the evil and being good friends. This could easily be compared to the person you sat next to on the first day of class, and you become the best of friends trying to tackle whatever class has got you down this semester. However, don't forget you will always have your original friends, the ones you give an Ellie badge to, in order to solidify your friendship. Maybe, just maybe, that person you met this semester will be able to earn an Ellie badge, too.

When you have more work than you are capable of doing...

At some point it all ends up being a mess anyways.

Giphy

Watch Sleeping Beauty. Much like most of Aurora's life, things end up being a giant mess if you end up overwhelmed. Some unwanted guests throw on a couple cursed assignments and their messy problems and now you have to hide other things away to deal with that. That doesn't even include the work you don't even know how to do, which ends up pretty similar to her birthday party before the fairies whipped out their wands to fix that mess. Take a much needed break and focus on the important things, like watching Sleeping Beauty and realize at least your life hasn't ended up like hers. If you don't have time to watch a Disney movie, make like Aurora, and take a nap.

When you are just feeling pessimistic...

We all know we lived by this motto when we were just a little bit younger.

Giphy

Watch The Lion King. Of anyone, Simba had just about every reason to be pessimistic. He watched his father die, got blamed for it, and ultimately ended up homeless, which all in all, culminates to being a terrible day. Absolutely no one can blame our little lion cub for being just a little bit hopeless on his life being any better. Ultimately, our little saying that he lived by gave him just a little bit of hope and allowed him to work hard at bringing a little life in his eyes. College leaves a lot of us with a lot of worries and stresses. Focus on the good, and worry less. If Simba can survive the mess he had to go through, we can all survive college.

When someone you trusted turned on you...

Pick your fights wisely.

Giphy

Watch The Aristocats. I feel like this movie is underrated and often forgotten when people are listing their favorite Disney movies. This is the kind of movie you have to watch on your VCR; it just makes sense. People are not always the sweetest, and it's entirely possible that someone in college will start poisoning your life. Remember that not everyone in your life will be an Edgar, and that many will be a Tom or a Madame Adelaide Bonfamille. She treated those cats like they were her children. You will have a couple Edgars in college, whether they are in a group project and only in it for your hard earned grade or whether they were just your friend for the parties, pick and choose the fights worth having. Just focus on being a queen like Madame and loving your worthy friends like those cats. Remember that along the way, you are going to find a Tom who will help you get back on your way and will be able to focus on making sure you can get back to your home.

When you are stressed about finals...

Study with the strength of a raging fire.

Giphy

Watch Mulan. Honestly, of all of the trials and tribulations that Disney princesses faced, Mulan certainly got one of the hardest tests, since she not only had to represent her family, a test she failed, but then she took it on herself to save her father and all of China. Of course, during finals week, it is highly recommended to focus on the tests that have to happen, and not add too much other stuff to your plate. So unlike Mulan, who failed one test miserably, the one she had to pass, focus on passing your finals and not on saving all of China. Mulan got pretty lucky in that she was eventually able to save all of China. Take a much deserved study break, watch Mulan, sing along to the song we all know, and then get back to studying for finals.

When you are feeling a bit trapped by what is expected of you...

A movie none of us knew we needed until it was released.

Giphy

Watch Tangled. All Rapunzel wanted was to live out her dream of seeing some lanterns, but it was clearly expected that she would stay in her tower without any excuses. If you are trapped in a major that you don't love, or trapped in a college that you don't love, or even trapped with a professor that certainly isn't helping you be successful, it becomes increasingly important to escape, and let yourself live a little. The lantern scene at the end of this movie is beautiful and happy, and a fantastic ending to any movie. Find your lantern scene, the moment that might alleviate the feeling of entrapment, maybe it's switching majors, maybe it's transferring, or maybe it's graduation.

When people seem to all be against you...

Recommended that you bring a dinglehopper with you to class, the wind can wreak havoc on your hair.

Giphy

Watch The Little Mermaid. I love this movie, it's a classic, however, it comes with some good advice. Ariel is hell-bent on escaping the sea and meeting her perfect prince. I believe that if that is truly what she wanted, no matter what King Triton or Sebastien said, she was going to live out that dream. No matter what, if you truly value someone's opinion consider what is making them advise against your ideas, maybe they have a point. That doesn't mean you have to follow their advice in anyway. If you are truly setting yourself up to live out your dream, it shouldn't matter what they say. Ariel lived out her dream, although not in the best way. No matter how many people tell you that you are crazy, remember that you are capable of anything that you set your mind to accomplish.

When you aren't going to graduate on time...

"How dare you. All of you. Standing around deciding my future. I am not a prize to be won."

Giphy

Watch Aladdin. Everyone gave Jasmine a timeline they expected her to live by, expecting her to get married at a specific point, and expecting her to marry not for love, but because someone told her that was what she should do. It makes sense that she might be a little bit irritated by this, and therefore, would not love this timeline. The four year graduation timeline just doesn't work for everyone, and graduating with a couple extra semesters under your belt might end up proving beneficial in the long run. Therefore, if you graduate late (or early) remember, the timeline is for some students. No one is deciding your future, just like no one should be disappointed if you take a little bit longer to graduate than the "expected four years."

I will always advocate for Disney movie watching, even when I should focus on studying. Remember that as amazing as our Disney movies are, school comes first. Besides, weekends are the perfect time to watch Disney movies all cuddled up with the people (or pups) who matter most.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
