We all know about those dreaded weeks between spring break and summer vacation that drag on seemingly forever. After a week of relaxing at home or on vacation, no one is truly prepared for the procrastination-induced frenzy that awaits them in those few fateful weeks before they can finally go home for the summer. Here are 10 things that are all too familiar to us as sleep-deprived college kids.
1. Spending all of spring break pretending school doesn't exist
Hey, it's starting to get warm, right? And the month of March does start with the same letter as the month of May, so in our heads spring break and summer vacation can easily be the same thing! No matter how productive we promise to be at the beginning of spring break, it seems like most of our time is spent sitting on the couch.
2. Getting back to school and acting like you've totally got this
At first glance, that pile of untouched work doesn't seem all that bad; if you just break it up into smaller chunks you'll be done in no time.
3. Realizing a few hours later that you definitely have not got this
So maybe it isn't totally practical to write 10 pages in a day.
4. Immediately counting down how many more days until the semester ends
45 days isn't too bad, is it? That's only 24 hours 45 times!
5. Calculating how many classes you can miss without failing
Did I skip that morning lecture class three times already? Will the professor really notice if I skip it a fourth?
6. Actually deciding to go to class and doing nothing but boring group work the whole time
Really? I got up at 9 a.m. to play Jeopardy?
7. Trying to stay on top of all that work you have to do for finals
Just as things seem to settle down into a routine again, professors suddenly begin throwing finals work at you. Get ready for speeches, projects and tests galore.
8. As finals begin to approach, your schedule gets crazier and crazier
Before you know it, finals are just a week or two away and you're suddenly scrambling to do all of the aforementioned work that you have been neglecting while watching cute cat videos. Time becomes irrelevant and coffee becomes your best friend.
9. Packing up everything in your dorm
For those of us that live on campus, finals week is not just a time for studying, but also a time for packing... everything. From washing all of those dirty clothes you've been ignoring to sorting through all of the stuff on your desk, those few hours before move out day are often quite hectic.
10. Rejoicing when the semester ends and realizing you finally made it
Finally, as all of the projects are turned in, tests are taken and dorms are cleaned, you can pat yourself on the back and rejoice in the fact that you're finished... until next semester.
