Right now, we know and love these trends. Will we still love them in 10 years?
1. Thigh High Boots
I do not own a pair of these myself, but after observing the trend for a year, I sometimes find myself yearning for a pair. Then I remember this scene from Spongebob and remind myself why I shouldn't get them.
2. Athleisure
Listen, I love spending every waking moment in clothes that are comfortable enough to work out (or sleep) in. I hope this trend sticks around for awhile, but I also think when we're working professionals, we will wonder why it was ever acceptable to wear pajamas in public.
3. Slides
These serve a functional purpose. Unless you are wearing them from your car to gym to preserve the grip on the soles of your basketball shoes, you will probably regret this fashion choice. The fluffy ones are extra regrettable. If you must get in on the trend, please for all of us who hate feet, wear socks (you're already committing a fashion CRIME, so you might as well).
4. Rompers (and Romphims)
We will remember these for what they are: onesies. It's hard to pee in these, and people over one year old shouldn't wear onesies. We won't miss them.
5. Crop Tops
It looks like half your shirt got sucked into a wood chipper.
6. Sheer Clothing
Some consider it edgy, I consider it impractical. What if it gets cold? The next step would be nakedness, and I don't see that as a future trend. We will regret this look in the future.
7. Piercings
In my rebellious teen years, I procured 7 ear piercings. My grandad told me I looked like I "fell in a tackle box." I suspect that one day nursing homes will be filled with elderly folks with abundant empty holes in their ears.
8. "Festival Fashion"
It's like you took every item of clothing you weren't sure how to style and wore it all at once. Our future selves will likely wonder why we thought this was a cohesive look.
9. Rainbow Hair
Now it looks magical, but I think this look will join the ranks of "scene fringe" and crimped hair. Our locks won't be able to stand the constant bleaching and dying, so this trend is sure to fade away (pun intended).
10. Birkenstocks
College campuses are filled with this practical shoe. Though I will cling to my comfortable shoes until you pry them off of me, we'll probably wonder why we couldn't find a better looking comfort shoe.
What current regrettable trends do you think I missed?
