As a native Houstonian I have to say that, while Dallas has its perks, nothing compares to Houston. So here are what I believe to be the 8 greatest things about Houston
1. You can walk 15 minutes anywhere you need to go.
Living in the Montrose part of Houston, I learned just how much is around you. I could walk 15 minutes and go to a Starbucks, a cafe, a gelato place or just about any kind of restaurant you could want.
2. The art culture is amazing.
If you are a creative soul and love art, you should probably visit Houston sometime. There's always some art show going on, and there are even free art museums open throughout the day.
3. The weather will keep you looking 20 when you're 40.
If you're anything like me and you're prone to dry skin, you just might know the struggle of how dry Dallas is. It may not be for everyone, but the humidity in Houston is guaranteed to take a few years off and prevent wrinkles. You won't have to use your whole container of moisturizer just to walk outside.
4. The food.
It's just as simple as that; the food. Houston is so diversified and cultured that you can get just about any kind of food you want, and an added bonus is that it's amazing. While I do like some of the restaurants in Dallas, I don't think I've found anything that can quite compare. There are tons of family-owned shops with secret recipes passed down that you just can't get anywhere else.
5. The shopping.
It doesn't matter what your style is; you can always find somewhere to shop in Houston. That's the plus side of having such a diverse population of people. There are so many malls that just picking where to go is a challenge.
6. The culture.
I know that I've mentioned this a lot in the other ones, but the culture truly is what makes Houston. I've been all over the country and visited a lot of different states and cities, and never have I seen such a diverse population of people. There's a place for everyone.
7. The parks.
I am well aware that the first thing people think of when you mention Houston is towering skyscrapers and concrete, but Houston has so much more to offer. One of the most amazing things about Houston is how much nature we still have. You get to have the city life and nature. There are so many great parks in Houston I don't know how you could choose.
8. Job opportunities.
Houston has one of the biggest job markets available right now. In fact, a lot of people relocate to Houston for jobs. If you graduate and don't where to look for a job, Houston is a great place to start.
