I have come to learn that self-care is very important and that in today's world, people seem to underestimate its importance.
As humans, we can get tired, and we can get tired easily.
I wouldn't say that self-care is very important for children, especially small children, just because they usually don't hold any responsibilities and are at an age where there biggest worries are probably about toys or what's for dinner.
But for teens, young adults, and adults, self-care is very important because these groups of people hold responsibilities.
As teens, young adults, and even adults, we have to worry about homework and making sure we keep our grades up so that colleges and future jobs will accept them.
These groups of people have to make sure they earn money from going to work, so that they can pay for things like cars, and also want to be able to pay for things they enjoy. Even further than that, some have to pay for school and things like bills for rent, insurance, and the like.
And so, we can get very stressed and overwhelmed from these responsibilities we hold. We can also get this way about any problems we are having in our lives, from having to appear in court to the acne on our faces.
We need to attend to our mental health, not just our physical health.
Our brains can only handle so much, and if self-care isn't attended to, our brains can get burned out. When this happens, we tend to feel worn down, overwhelmed, depressed, anxious, and exhausted. This in turn can take affect on other people in our lives. If we don't attend to our self-care, we can end up lashing out at our loved ones.
And so, it is very important to take care of ourselves when necessary, and when we begin to feel not like ourselves. Take that bubble bath. Drink that big glass of wine. Watch that funny show on Netflix. Talk to that friend that always makes you smile.
