10 Ways To Keep Calm During COVID-19

Who would have thought that our lives would have changed so drastically from COVID-19. People are being affected socially, economically, mentally, physically, and it seems to be getting worse. However, there is hope and we need hope and ways to get through this. Here are 10 ways to stay calm during CVOID-19.

1. Follow the Guidelines to Stay Safe

As I am sure you heard, stay inside, social distant, monitor symptoms, 20 second washing; look at CDC website and stay safe.

2. Practice Mindfulness

Mindfulness is being aware of the presence - stay focused on what you can control now and breathe.

3. Breathe

As I mentioned above with mindfulness, breathe. You need to step back and take a breathe. Life is changing so fast for sure, but do not forget to take a step back and breathe.

4. Remember You Are Not Alone

It is usual to feel vulnerable during this time - like this is only worse for you- but just remember everyone - large or small - are being affected. We need to stay hopeful and support one another, especially by following guidelines to stay safe.

5. Art therapy

Doing art is therapeutic - even if you think you are not good at it- painting, drawing, making bracelets, doing crafts - anything is helpful to not only help you relax but cure the boredom at home.

6. Text or Call a Friend or Loved One

Everyone can use someone to talk to during this time. Since talking to others in person does not seem like the best option right now, reach out through phone for someone to vent to - make sure you have someone to hear you out during this difficult time.

7. Sleep

Sleep is essential to function as a human being. You can't think clearly and be in a good state of mind without proper rest. Make sure you are keeping up with your sleep. If your sleep is out of sorts from the news of the virus or stress, give yourself more time to get to bet, play relaxing music - whatever needs to be done to help you sleep.

8. Eat well

Eating healthy puts you in a good mood. Don't get caught up staying home and eating junk food from depression and bored dome. Keeping up with a solid diet plan can keep your energy up. Go for apples and eggs, not chips and white bread, except cheat days do not hurt once in a while.

9. Go Outside

We may be stuck indoors but it does not mean we can't have fun outside and take advantage of the fresh air. You can do activities with people you have been stuck at home with or meet up with others if you are smart about and keep a safe distance. Make sure you pick the activities that are safe for everyone, perhaps walking in a park, playing soccer, even basketball if you can and think it is safe. With gyms being closed and all going for a run ain't a bad idea either.

10. Pray

Praying if you are religious can give you a time to reflect and simply ask anyone, whoever that may be for help. You can even cry to "someone" if needed but praying can help you release inner struggles and pain and look towards a hopeful future, especially with the COVID-19 going on. Ask God if this will pass or even just talk "up there" or to yourself to find inner peace.

This too shall pass and all we can do is stay calm and stay safe. Hoping anyone who is in a crisis is healing and is protected during this difficult time.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
