YouTube TV: First Impressions

Cheaper cable is something we all can get behind!

My family got YouTube TV back during Winter Break. I was a little annoyed when they got it, not because I love paying hundreds of dollars for cable. But for the fact that I've been trying to convince them for a year. We could literally be hundreds of dollars richer right now if they switched my freshman year. It all started when we visited my Step-Dad mom's house. She recently got Hulu TV and was watching live tv of the game. My parents were so intrigued by it and when I explained that it was what I was trying to tell them about months ago they ignored to acknowledge my point, typical.

Anyway, they got YouTube TV. And I decided to finally test it out down here in Athens. For the longest time, I didn't think it was going to work since they have it registered for all the Cleveland stations. Not only that but the wifi in my dorm room is spotty sometimes, mainly with my PlayStation 4. So after 20 minutes of trying to set it up, it finally started working and it's a blast for the most part. I am an avid YouTube Watcher. My Screentime tells me I watch hours of YouTube every day, probably more than I should. However, sometimes it's difficult to just have a random YouTube video playing in the background. It used to be easy but now that I am picky about what videos are playing in the background, I find live streams the best. But obviously the live streamers I like need a break and can't stream 24/7. That's why I am glad I can just pop the tv on and play something from the movie channel or HGTV. It's a feeling that I don't think people realize anymore, the feeling of just having noise but not too distracting noise.

The system has all the basic channels any person would need or expect. You got the news, sports and, cartoons. I was a little disheartened when I found Nickelodeon wasn't featured. Apparently their parent company Viacom wants to stick with cable. I'm still testing it out cause one day I was trying to watch Curious George… don't ask why… and PBS wouldn't load. Apparently, I wasn't allowed to stream it and I was like… "What are they showing on Curious George nowadays?!" One feature I have enjoyed is that when I am watching something like "Thor Ragnorak" on TNT and then turn it off to go to class, there's an option to pick the film up where I last left off as like cloud storage for a film. I find that pretty sweet, it saves the hassle of hitting record with everything. The only minor nitpick is, as expected, it's the tv version so some minor things are edited or censored. But that's again very minor.

Overall, I am still testing the new features and all but overall I am content with YouTube TV. It feels nice turning on the news to all the Cleveland Newstations, it makes me feel a little bit more at home.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
