It's 2016 and YouTube has been in existence for 11 years now. In recent years, it has become quite the contender in the entertainment industry. Millions of viewers are on YouTube every day, watching beauty gurus do makeup and share clothing hauls, gamers playing the latest video game, vloggers doing the latest challenge, and more. It has become a platform for comedians, musicians, and actors, as well as web series, podcasts, and short films. Many YouTube personalities have gone on to make films, write books, interview people such as President Obama, and break out into the music industry.
If you're on YouTube
a lot, you've probably heard names such as Tyler Oakley, Dan and
Phil, Smosh, Grace Helbig, Lilly Singh, Ryan Higa, Jenna Marbles, The
Vlog Brothers, Pewdiepie and other YouTube personalities with
millions of subscribers. They're the household names among viewers of
YouTube. The beauty of YouTube is that anyone has the ability to
start a channel and become one of those household names.
But, unfortunately,
with the huge amount of channels on YouTube and people starting new
channels every day, it's hard to become as big as Tyler Oakley or
Jenna Marbles. So to help a few channels out, here are some that I
think are grossly under-subscribed to.
1. TheThirdPew
Nathan makes it onto this list because of his wit and clever editing. He makes comedy videos and, occasionally, the more casual, talk-to-the-camera type video. He's a college student, an avid Twitter user, and someone who often uses his voice to speak out on issues he cares about. I've both laughed and cried while watching his videos. He definitely deserves more than 400,000 subscribers.
2. Carly Fleischmann
"Speechless" is a new web series starring Carly Fleischmann, a 21-year-old with autism. She has been unable to speak all her life, but uses a text-to-speech application to use her voice. Throughout the web series, she has made it clear that she will be an advocate for anyone with something to overcome, and she will encourage others to use their voices as well. Her first episode is an interview with Channing Tatum, during which she proves herself to be outrageously funny and certainly capable of achieving her dream of being a talk show host.
3. OnlyLeigh
Leigh is an animator and self-described fangirl. She makes funny videos based on the things she's a fan of and also based on just being a fangirl. She writes, animates, and voice acts in her own videos -- you can tell she puts a lot of work into each one. If you can relate even a little bit to being a fan of something, you'll relate to her videos.
The above video is just one of several videos of hers that have gone viral. This one got over eight million views! Yet, Leigh only has around 340,000 subscribers.
4. Practical Folks
Practical Folks is a channel made up of a group of people who do comedy sketches. But, easily, my favorite thing they do is get drunk and watch Disney movies with a special guest. The commentary ends up being hilarious and so very entertaining. They only do this once a month, but I'd say it's worth the subscription. I mean, it's funny enough to watch these movies as adults and see what our little childish minds missed, but it's even funnier to see what drunk adult minds can pick out.
5. JessiSmiles
Jessi is an ex-Viner turned YouTuber who makes mostly "Story Time" videos like the one above. Sometimes when friends tell you stories, they're either so boring or your friend is such a bad storyteller that your mind can't help but wander. Trust me, this is not a problem with Jessi's stories.
Somehow, she always has the best stories and her storytelling is always up to par. She has dating stories, stories from high school, drunk stories, airport stories, and more. Being subscribed to her is like only getting the juiciest stories from your best friend.
And there you have it! My list of YouTube channels you should subscribe to because they deserve more subscribers is complete. You can get a laugh out of any or all of them and I promise you won't regret subscribing.
