Dear past me,
We've all done it. There's that boy that is just SO funny and handsome. He has that smile that makes you smile even bigger and his eyes deeper than the sea and sweeter than icing. You light up every time you see him, casting beams like a lantern.
But... he doesn't react quite the same way. Sometimes he laughs at your jokes, sometimes he just asks you to repeat what you said because he wasn't listening. He'll smile at you but doesn't ask about your day. He doesn't know your favorite color and he can't tell a stranger about how you take your coffee. He looks at you, but he doesn't see you.
You're worth more than his smile. You're worth more than his eyes. You are worth was more than his attention. Dearest past me, do not measure your worth against another person. You are whole on your own and you are valid by yourself. Dearest past me, do more for you. Stop doing your makeup the way he said he liked it that one time because he might not ever notice it again. Do your makeup the way that makes you smile, because your smile is beautiful too.
Past me, go look in the mirror and notice your icing eyes. His eyes might be ocean eyes, but yours are hurricanes and tsunamis. Past me, remember that time you said you wanted to go on a breakfast date but he never asked you? Take yourself out on a breakfast date. Ask your best friend on a breakfast date. You don't have to wait around for him to ask you. You can thrive without his attention. While you were living for him, nobody was living for you.
Past me, you are not a bad person. You're not a bad person at all because you give him you're all while he gave you false hope. There is nothing wrong with you. There is nothing wrong with him. There just wasn't enough connection, and that is not anybody's fault. You tried your best only to be shown that there is something better for you.
Past me, you have taught me how to be single while still loving everybody like you're not. Dearest past me, you are perfect for yourself. Present me and future me will always thank you.
Love,
Present me
