YOU'RE NEVER TOO YOUNG TO THINK ABOUT THE GOOD OL' DAYS

Remember Teletubbies, Lizzie McGuire and DDR?

YOU'RE NEVER TOO YOUNG TO THINK ABOUT THE GOOD OL' DAYS
Megan McLellan

You’ve probably heard your parents talk about the good ol' days. They talk about TV shows, music groups and other fads that were popular when they were young.

I have to admit, I’m starting to do the same thing. Although I’m only 20, there are a lot of things from my childhood that only kids of my generation can relate to. Sometimes when my friends get together, we talk about the sweet, fun and even awkward memories.

If you’re in my age group, here are a few things that you might remember:

-Wishing you could sit on “The Big Comfy Couch” with Loonette and Molly. Looking for dust bunnies under the couch and lying on the floor to do the clock stretch.

-Watching those creepy little Teletubbies who never really talked except when they wanted “tubby toast” or “tubby custard.” Po was my personal favorite, although Tinky Winky, Laa-Laa and Dipsy were pretty cool, too.

-Dreaming of being a Disney princess - it didn’t matter which one, they all were beautiful, and you wanted to be any one of them, or all of them.

-Getting an American Girl doll: the most wonderful gift of all.

-Bringing your Littlest Pet Shop pets to play with at recess. Who would have thought that some of these little pets would end up being collectibles?

-Crying every time Nick Jonas sang “A Little Bit Longer,” especially when he got to the part, “I’ll be fine.”

-Buying “High School Musical” sing-a-long so you could be Gabriella, fall in love with Troy and sing “Start of Something New".

-Collecting every furry Webkinz you could get, and even getting your grandpa to pay crazy prices when new ones were released.

-Covering your bedroom walls with pictures of the Jones Brothers and trying to figure out which brother you would marry. Nick, of course.

- Playing “DDR” (Dance Dance Revolution) at every birthday party and sleepover and having the kid (who always said they never practiced) win every game.

-Cheering when Lizzie McGuire sings “What Dreams Are Made Of” as she lives the dream in Italy onstage with Isabella (why does she look just like Lizzie?).

- Knowing every single lyric of Hilary Duff’s “So Yesterday.”

-Hoping that no one other than Lily, Jackson, Oliver or Robby Ray would find out the Miley is actually Hannah Montana.

-Reading The Clique series of books. As if middle school cliques didn’t give us enough drama, we collected books about Massie and her crazy cliques. “Ah-mazing.”

-Obsessing about your Nintendogs: taking them for walks, feeding them, caring for them, and the best part, competing in agility contests to earn your puppies a seaside home.

-Buying clothes at Limited Too, then being excited about moving up to Aeropostale and then, finally, to American Eagle.

My grandma says every stage and age has its special memories- cherish them.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
