In my 19 years of living, I have never been so aware of a presidential election as I am for the one going on now. Voting has always been very important to my family, but I suppose that's what happens when you are born into a family of former local politicians.
Our generation, so famously termed as the "millennials," are more powerful now than ever. We are the future of America. Our voice is the loudest. And our vote is the one that is going to count the most.
I am not here to persuade you to vote for the same candidate as I am, or to dissuade you from voting for who you want to vote for. That's what's so awesome about presidential elections — we have the power to control our nation's future.
That's why I am asking you to think long and hard about the candidate you are considering voting for. Does his/her beliefs match up with yours? Do you believe, with everything inside you, that they have the ability to restore our nation to the greatness that it once was?
America is still great in my eyes. It is my home. I want my home to be led by the most capable person for the job, and I feel that everyone else should hope for the same, as it is their home as well.
Don't vote for the candidate everyone considers "cool" or "funny," because unfortunately, being cool or funny doesn't make someone a worthy leader. We all want a leader to be someone who can have a conversation with someone as normal as you or me, but we also want a leader who can be diplomatic enough to have a decent conversation with other diplomats in foreign countries without offending them. We need someone who realizes what is tact and what isn't.
Another thing that we need to be aware of when voting for our next leader is to vote for someone who we believe truly has the good of our nation at heart. We need someone who, instead of putting themselves first, puts our nation first.
This election is one of the most important for our generation because it will set the tone for future elections, and this leader has some really important decisions to make. That is why I'm asking you, the future of this country, to really weigh your options and the pros and cons of the candidates, and to choose the one that you believe, not the one someone else believes, will be a good fit for this nation.
