It's finally here! After a semester of working your butt off, you're welcomed by those well deserved three months of being able to do whatever your heart desires A.K.A summer.
Now, I am sure summer plans look different to everyone; work, travel, vacation, internships, adventures,, etc. Whatever your break consists of, Jimmy Fallon can narrate for you.
For those of you that get to enjoy a summer free of obligations and responsibilities, everyday gets to be whatever you make of it. This also gives you an excuse to drink with your friends no matter how early in the week it is merely because you can.
So, go ahead! Zero judgement. In fact, summer is basically a judgement free zone in and of itself. This concept even extends to the karaoke night you've been planning. When you're out with your friends you feel like you could be the next Whitney Houston, even though this is DEFINITELY liquid courage, but you're having fun and everyone is going along with it.
But then, all of a sudden, someone walks in that none of you are a huge fan of like an ex, an old high school teacher, etc. and then you're all just like:
This being able to do whatever you want when you want mentality also means spontaneous trips to the beach. Whenever you're asked to go soak up the sun it's always a yes!
Summer is a time that makes you feel like you can conquer the world, it's like all of a sudden YOU are bay watch running on the beach and the iconic/humorous trip never happens and you keep going. But there are also those days that it may take you some extra convincing to do something. Like shower?
Come on. We've all been there.
Unfortunately, not everybody gets to enjoy a summer of free reign.
How about the people who have to go to work and save as much money as they can before the summer is over? It really sucks when you're trying to budget for the time of your life when you're inevitably in THOUSANDS of dollars of debt and you see posts of everyone else having the summer you wish you were having. So you try to make the most of your situation and fake it until you feel it.
But the ones I really sympathize with are the select few "the chosen ones" who have decided to take on a summer in.. wait for it...
Fake it until you feel it is an expression you will live by when you work in retail. Your brain becomes so ingrained with greeting people at the door you will literally do it on the clock, off the clock, and even in other stores that you don't work at.
So, you get a day off. This is the day that you have been looking forward to all week because you finally get to do something fun. You're so excited you get to enjoy your plans and then it happens: someone texts you to cover their shift and you're just like;
but you need the money so you give in
It's funny how the semester will take its sweet time to conclude, but summer? It's like the shortest nap of your life. I mean even shorter than that 7-minute alarm that I know you've set between classes to get some sleep in. One minute you're having the time of your life, and the next? BOOM. Responsibility, deadlines, schedules.
Be sure to take some time to appreciate your break this summer. I know everyone's summer plans are different, but make your summer something you can look back on and know that you've enjoyed. Who knows? Maybe you'll even watch "The Tonight Show" Starring Jimmy Fallon
