Your First Night Back At College as Told By Songs

Life as a college student is different than life as a high school student in many ways. You’re older, wiser, a little less in shape, and a little more tolerable towards excessive amounts of cheap alcohol. But, the most unexpected change you see once you’re a college student is that instead of dreading going back to school come September, you count down the days until you move back in August.

No matter what year you’re going into, you somehow find ways to relate everything back to stories from college or the people you met there. And although it’s annoying to everybody back home, you love it and you can’t wait to make more memories.

When your three months of summer pass and your countdown has finally reached single digits, you find yourself texting your friends to figure out plans for your first night back even if it’s a week away.

When you finally move back to school after three months of complaining how much you want to be there again, your night begins and it will probably go a little something like this:

  1. For when you see all your friends for the first time all summer: "Reunited" by Peaches & Herb

  2. For when your snapchat story is 73 seconds worth of pictures of you and your friends with captions like “Guess who’s back” “Back at it” “_____ University ain’t ready for us”: "#Selfie" by The Chainsmokers

  3. For when you are getting ready together like old times: "Flawless" by Beyoncé

  4. For the first shot you take together for the night: "Shots" by LMFAO

  5. For the second shot you take together for the night: "Tequila Remix" by J.Rabbit

  6. For dancing around your apartment after getting a little buzzed: "Shut Up and Dance" by Walk The Moon

  7. For waiting for the cab to pick you up: "I'll Be Waiting" by Adele

  8. For when the cab finally gets to your apartment: "What Dreams Are Made Of" by Hilary Duff

  9. For when you’re bumping music on the way to the bar: "The Thrill" by Wiz Khalifa

  10. For when you finally make it into the bar: "Feeling Myself" by Nicki Minaj

  11. For when you see your crush from last semester in the bar: "Worth It" by Fifth Harmony

  12. For when you make it through the crowded bar to buy a drink: "All Night Longer" by Sammy Adams

  13. For when you make your first group bathroom trip: "Move B**** Get Out Da Way" by Ludacris

  14. For when you somehow make it to the dance floor: "Bricks" by Carnage

  15. For when you’re trying to find your friends to go home: "Where Are You Now" by Skrillex and Diplo

  16. For when you find your friends and leave the bar: "The Night Is Still Young" by Nicki Minaj

  17. For when you’re stumbling on your way home: "Lean On" by Major Lazer and DJ Snake

  18. For when you finally make it back (if you make it back): "Where'd You Go" by Fort Minor

And that’s what your first night back with your college friends will probably look like. Now go enjoy sylly week.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
