Your Anxiety Does Not Define Your Finals

You're doing great.

It's exam week and you're scrambling and studying, just like every other student in your university. But it's different, it feels different to you. You get your last exam, and you think "this is it," and that will be your last time you have to worry about finals. But with that thought, comes another million thoughts like, "am I good enough to get through this class?" "Did I study enough?"

It's a constant question that runs through everyone's mind.

With shaking hands and not even being able to even focus on what the question is even asking you, you think of every other question in your head that comes along with questioning because you think of those questions in detail and more deeply than other people. You think about those questions for days, while others think of them for that night. While you're thinking of what you could've done better, they're thinking that too, but for only one day, you're thinking about it for a dozen.

You feel like your GPA defines you, which when applying for jobs and internships, it does feel like that if only someone could see your potential. Although GPA is very important, it can be deceiving. Because through your GPA, it doesn't show your past experiences, it doesn't show character, it doesn't show your full potential, your full abilities.

One student can have a higher GPA but doesn't know your struggle with family issues, financial instability, and mental instability, so he or she may get the better grade because he or she doesn't have to work. He/she doesn't have to worry if his or her family can afford the university's expenses the next day.

I mean all semester, you've had other things than your GPA and you've been shaking and crying about one grade. This is for the ones who think they weren't sure if they'd make it past high school. You're doing great and you can do it and it's even more impressive since you feel as if the world is collapsing on you.

Happy exam week, I hope you all do very well. You're gonna do great. Even if you do worse than you expected, you know what? That's OK. You still have so much time left and it's not the end yet.

With your mind not focused, hands shaking, and eyes shifting left and right hyperventilating, just remember to breathe. This does not define you.

Here are a few self-care tips for those who struggle with anxiety and their schoolwork:

- Get some sleep

- Eat enough food

- Drink some water

- Take some breaks from studying

- Do something different from studying, even if it's only for a few minutes

Your schoolwork may feel like the biggest issue in the world right now, but trust me, you're doing great. You're doing a lot better. Happy finals week and remember to self-care.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
