My whole life, New York City has been a magical place for me. I imagine the day that I will be able to become successful in the best city on the planet. Sex and the City has always been a favorite show of mine, but at twelve years old, I'm sure my parents were not too pleased with the fact that their daughter was watching a show like that. When the Carrie Diaries came out, I could not contain my excitement, especially because one of my favorite actresses, AnnaSophia Robb, was playing Carrie Bradshaw, the person I aspired to be, as a teenager. Seeing one of my favorite characters portrayed as a high school student made the character more relatable, especially being the same age. Not only was the show relatable, but it also provided the audience, including me, with life lessons I remember to this day.
1. Remember that even though this is the most important part of your life, don't forget to also have fun. If there is something you are really interested in, make sure you do it. When you die, you're not going to remember all the times you could have been doing something you enjoyed. Regret is not a positive emotion. Do things that will make you happy, because in the end, happiness and your success are important.
2. It is perfectly acceptable to cry. Some people view crying as a negative action, but in the end, it could honestly be good for you. Sometimes you have so much going on in your life that you break down, and that is okay. It means you will only go up from that moment. Letting out some tears just proves to yourself that you're still human and you still have emotions. Sometimes, it's a good thing to let it all out.
3. Fake It Til You Make It. Sometimes the little white lies you tell yourself can beneficial. If you keep telling yourself you're the best, eventually you'll believe what you're saying and you'll become the best. Yes, there are many downsides in this scenario, but sometime's the only person that will believe in you is yourself. So yes, pretend that you're the best because someday, everyone will believe it too.
4. Sometimes you're going to mess up. Nobody is perfect and everybody makes mistakes (thank you, Hannah Montana). Messing up is inevitable. Yes, you have the right to be angry at yourself for messing up, but except your mistakes and grow from them. Each mistake is a life lesson in itself; one learns a value piece about themselves or others in the mistakes that they make. By accepting them and moving on, you're allowing yourself to grow.
5. When you're being successful, you're always going to have "haters". People always want to see the worst in people so they are reassured that they are the successful one's in their lives. Nobody wants to see somebody being better then them, but in the real world, there always is someone better. People will make up stories and rumors in order to defeat the competition, but it's only because that person understands that you are beating them. Don't let untrue negative comments about yourself tear you down when you know that you are being the best version of yourself no matter what.
By showing Carrie Bradshaw at a younger age, Sex and the City fans were able to see where Carrie Bradshaw learned to be such a strong female character. She turned out to be a woman that women everywhere should aspire to be. She did what pleased her and respected herself enough to never mix business and pleasure. Thank you Carrie Bradshaw, for being an inspiration to women everywhere.
