Who you are holds much more worth than what you look like. There. I said it. Point blank.
I'm sure you've heard that a million times in some form or fashion. But you have to actually believe it.
We spend so much time and effort on our appearance. We have to have the blondest hair, the longest eye-lashes, the perfectly shaped body, the contour line to die for, freshly painted nails, the latest outfit trend, and the perfect accessories to top off our look. We focus so much of our time on our outward appearance that we forget to spend time on our character and our personality.
Can I be blatantly honest? Your beauty will fade. You will not always be young, wrinkle-free, and gray-less. The person who is interested in you now for only what you look like will eventually find someone more enticing and appealing.
What if we focused more time on who we are on the inside? Sounds cliche, but you owe it to yourself, and to everyone around you. You can be absolutely beautiful on the outside, and have an ugly personality.
Maybe you're the girl who likes chocolate chip pancakes in bed on Saturday mornings. Or maybe it's celebrating Christmas starting in November because of what the season means to you. Maybe you love taking spontaneous, one-day road trips where you just drive until you get tired of driving. Whatever it is that you love, whatever it is that makes you special and different from everyone else, that's what you need to spend your time enhancing.
My greatest fear in life is being someone other than myself. I love feeling pretty on the outside, and don't get me wrong, I think that's important. But, more important than that is who you are on the inside. Be quirky, be weird, be YOU.
And when you're worried that "YOU" isn't good enough? Well, that's when you have to stop believing the lies of society. Because you are enough, just like you are. Quirks and all.
The people who judge you for being yourself are the exact people you don't need in your life. Be yourself, and you will find true friends who love you for YOU. Be yourself, and you'll find the person who loves you for more than just your physical appearance. Being anything other than yourself will lead to friends who aren't genuine, and relationships that leave you heartbroken.
It's time. Time for you to let go of the standards of society. And be you. Because you are enough, and because YOU is all you need to be.
