Growing up, I never really thought too much about Columbus. It was always just the capital of Ohio to me, and an escape from my hometown. There was just always something to do in Columbus, things that my own town couldn't supply for me because it was so small. But it wasn't until moving away that I realized something. While Cleveland is known for the Cavs and what not, Columbus honestly just can't be beat.
1. It's almost treason for not bleeding scarlet and gray.
You literally can walk anywhere in Columbus and everything is scarlet and gray. Yell "O-H" a good chunk of people will yell back "I-O." Sure, this can happen anywhere in Ohio but let's be realistic. If you're from Columbus it's much cooler.
2. One word: CANES.
RAISING CANE'S. THE BEST FRIED CHICKEN AROUND. If you live in Columbus it's your go to when you're hungry at midnight and need something to fill your stomach. It's a place everyone visits when they take a trip to the capital of the state, you can't not love Cane's. It's freaking Raising Cane;s.
3. Going to the zoo is the best time EVER.
The Columbus Zoo is literally the best time of your life. The zoo lights, all the animals, ZOOMBEZI BAY, and it's the number one place teenagers go for jobs. Not only to mention it's like all of our goals to meet the one and only Jack Hanna while looking at our awesome selection of animals.
4. Cosi the Science Museum involved your best glory days.
When Cosi came to your school it was honestly the best hour of your life. You got to watch your friends/classmates do fun science experiments. It was even more fun when you went to Cosi on a weekend or in the summer. There was so much to do! My biggest regret was never seeing the Titanic exhibit because all my friends went and for some reason it's the one everyone still remembers.
5. People accuse you of being shitty drivers.
Since coming to college and being asked where I live, I tell them the Columbus area and they always say, "Columbus people are crazy drivers." I guess people from all over Ohio think Columbus has some of the most impatient and crazy drivers.
6. There is literally so much to do.
The Short North? One of the best places to go out and eat, look around in galleries, and shop until you drop at HOMAGE (and other little boutiques). Then there's the North Market, the one place where it celebrates all different types of cultures with FOOD and we all know that food brings us together. They also have cute little stands that sell teas and pots and pans and flowers. It's honestly the best place on earth.
7. YOU HAVE AN APPRECIATION FOR THE MUSIC SCENE.
Honestly, this is the best part about Columbus and if you like music you know it. There are so many musical festivals OF ALL GENRES that go on in the city. In the past two years alone I've been to over 30 concerts. So to sum that up, everyone loves Columbus and performing here.
It's Columbus until we die, it's the best place to be and let's face it... Columbus people just do everything better.
