If you grew up in the church, like I did, you probably went to Sunday school, youth group, potlucks, Bible studies, and any other event hosted by the church. I loved being a "church kid" and looking back on my childhood now, I remember some of the quintessential things I think all my fellow "church kids" will remember fondly:
1. Veggie Tales
If you liked to waltz with potatoes up and down the produce aisle, you were probably a fan of Veggie Tales.
2. AWANA
Memorizing Bible verses, playing games, and finally getting to spend my paper money at the AWANA store!
3. The Father Abraham song
The only way to remember that Father Abraham had many sons, and that many sons had Father Abraham and that I am one of them and so are you. You maybe even had to do the dance.
4. John 3:16
The most well known Bible verse. Probably the first verse you memorized. The verse that kids race each other to see who can say it faster.
5. VBS
The best week of summer by far! Great songs, crafts, and snacks every day!
6. Youth Camps
Youth group camps were the absolute best! It wouldn't be youth camp without a few pranks, an injury, and a burning passion for God by the end of the week.
7. Purity Talks
That one week where everyone felt really uncomfortable and you prayed there were no new visitors (I promise this isn't what we talk about all the time!).
8. Burning your sins (literally)
That freeing feeling what you got to write down all your guilt and sin and then throw it in the fire and watch it burn.
9. Trying not to drip wax on yourself at the Christmas Eve service
These candles and their paper wax protection were no match for kids who liked to play with the paper through the whole service making the paper powerless against the dripping wax by the end. Wax on clothes equals one ruined dress and one angry mother.
10. Picking where to go to lunch after church
The hardest decision of the week.
