You Don't Have To Have Your Life All Figured Out

You Don't Have To Have Your Life All Figured Out
Danielle Fowler

There are some people who just seem to have it all together, but if you're anything like me, your life is a beautifully disorganized clutter that you happily deal with as time progresses. I am queen of to-do lists, utilize my planner like no other, and attempt to stay on top of my work, but alas, each day is still a constant whirlwind. But that is quite alright. There's magic in living each day uncertain of what will unfold, excitement with spontaneity. If you find yourself facing some minor freak outs because the rest of the world has their shit together, fear not, you are not alone.

There will always be the questions asked that require a concrete answer. What are your post-graduate plans? How is school going? Are you seeing anyone? What'd you get on that test? They're eye-rolling questions, annoyingly redundant, and usually cause frustration instead of any pure excitement. That's not to shame those who confidently know the answers to these questions, but the intangible life concepts elicit much more emotion and conversation than any of these mere curiosities ever could. It allows us to embrace the journey, instead of feeling obligated to know the answer to every single question that is presented to us.

Every moment we live is full of wonder and breeds opportunity for our lives to wind down an incredible path. To be caught up in creating a concrete road map for the rest of our being is simply impossible. Life can change in a split second; we cannot plan for every single instance or every single obstacle that may come before us. Instead, we must fill our mind with positive thoughts and push ourselves to seek the excitement in every single day. There is indeed beauty in this mess, I swear to you.

If we knew the contents to each and every chapter of our lives, we would not only be predictable, but bored and disappointed. In carving our own paths, we bring a sense of ourselves into our journey. We test our limits, push our boundaries, and grow as a result. It is easy to be overwhelmed by this consistent ambiguity, especially as we see others who are seemingly put together. Truth is, no one fully has everything sorted out. The people with the jobs after graduation, the people with the steady relationships, the people with a plethora of support around them, they too, face adversity. It is in how we conquer them that allows the true story to be written. We all face challenges and we are all tested to sort through them, so when you're feeling alone or overwhelmed by the pressure to know exactly what you're doing in this life, think again.

Think about all of the wonderful moments you stumbled on by surprise, the doors that were opened by mysterious or difficult endings, and the winding roads you have yet to travel down. Understand that this life is what we make of it for a reason and that to have all of our worries, concerns, and plans settled by simple answers defeats the purpose. Each of these moments will lead us to unexpected beginnings, new friendships, and experiences we will look back and be more than grateful for. You've just got to trust the process and let life take its course. Easier said than done, but I challenge you.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
