You Can Keep Your Rose

The Bachelorette is just not for me.

You Can Keep Your Rose

It appears as though everyone and their mother has jumped on the Bachelor or Bachelorette train. If you were on any form of social media last night, you know that an overwhelming amount of Bachelorette directed posts were being made. It amazes me how absorbed people are into this reality show.

I've watched one episode of The Bachelor and, well, I wasn't very impressed. Sure, the immediate ridiculousness of some of the contestants' actions is entertaining at first, but I think that would get boring after a while....not to mention annoying. Watching guys and girls throw themselves at one person does not seem like good entertainment to me.

Can I point out one thing? People are tuning in every Monday night to see a man or woman maintain literally like 15 relationships at one time. That's crazy. In the real world, where people are normal, dating that many people at one time is frowned upon. But dress it up in flashy clothes, bright lights, in a mansion with a sunset background and BOOM-- you've got a hit.

Another thing, you're telling me that this man or woman is supposed to find their one true love out of the handful of people a television show has casted? Seems possible, ya know, if the casting director is, I don't know, GOD?! Seriously, how do people believe that these shows actually lead to a solid and lasting relationship?

Not to mention those of us at home are actually watching people date. On television. Willingly. Like, is it just me or is that weird? I can think of a million other things I would rather watch on television. But, to each their own I guess.

Lastly, my main issue with The Bachelorette are the girls who fantasize about being JoJo, because she clearly just found her soulmate and got engaged on national television. I feel like I'm the only one who thinks the whole thing is just a big scripted money racket. Call me old fashioned, but I thought you were supposed to go out and meet people yourself, not have someone herd a bunch of them into a house for you. There is no way that love is genuine, and even if it is that's like a one in a million chance. Strip away the fame, publicity, money, and see how much 'true love' is left.

I'm sure I've offended someone, no doubt. But let me remind you that this is just my opinion, and I mean no harm by this. I simply cannot get into these shows, and I fail to see why everyone else is so enthralled by them. So you won't find me yearning for that final rose, no matter how many other people are.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
