You Are Not Defined By Numbers

You are worth so much more than the numbers in your life.

You Are Not Defined By Numbers
Robin Davis

You are not defined by numbers.

Let’s read that again. You are not defined by numbers.

That math test you failed last week? That has nothing to do with your worth.

The amount of followers you have on Instagram? That has nothing to do with your worth.

How much you weigh? Nothing to do with your worth.

You are not defined by any numbers in your life. You can fail all the exams in the world, have 0 followers on Instagram, and weigh more than you want to weigh, but you are not defined by those numbers. Those numbers change all the time. You aren’t always going to fail. You can gain followers on Instagram (although that doesn’t matter at all). And you can lose or gain weight if you want. But those numbers are no reflection of who you are as a person.

I spent so many years putting pressure on myself to be the absolute best. I am a perfectionist to the core, but there was always someone better than me. If I got anything less than a 95 percent on anything, I felt like I screwed up. I knew I could do better, but honestly, my grades did not define me. It really took me years to let go of that. Obviously, I want to try my best and get the best grade I can, but if I “fail” and “screw up,” that does mean I am a failure as a person. There’s always room for improvement, so failing is not a bad thing. Next time you fail a test or get a grade lower than you wanted, remember that you are not defined by that test. That grade does not reflect who you are at all.

I also spent many years putting myself down because of the number I saw on the scale. I have always been so ashamed of how much I weighed and what I looked like. I didn’t realize how low my self-esteem was due to the numbers on the scale. I compared myself to every girl I saw. I could’ve been skinnier and the number on the scale made me feel like I wasn’t skinny enough or pretty enough. The number on the scale did not define me then and it does not define me now. The number on the scale does not define any of us. We are more than a number on a scale, that number does not define who I am or who you are as a person.

We are beautiful, wonderful and imperfect people in an imperfect world. Numbers do not define who you are. You are an awesome person regardless of what percentage your grades are. You are an awesome person regardless of what the scale says. You are an awesome person regardless of how many “friends” you have online. You do not need to base your self-worth on these worthless things. Instead, focus on what matters and learn to love yourself. You are defined by how you feel about yourself, so do not put yourself down because you don’t have as many followers on Instagram as your best friend or because you got a lower grade on the test than your peers, or because your weight isn’t where you want it to be. Remember there is always room for improvement because we are imperfect people, all you have to do is love yourself. You are defined by yourself, so remember you are wonderful.

You are worth so much more than all of those numbers, now believe it!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

The Importance Of Being A Good Person

An open letter to the good-hearted people.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
