Masterpiece: a work of outstanding artistry, skill, or workmanship; an artist’s or craftsman’s best piece of work
This painting is called "The Starry Night" and was painted by Vinvent van Gogh in 1889. The painting has been seen all over the world. It’s been replicated and hangs on walls all over the country. The original painting is on display at the Museum of Art in New York City.
Like, WOW! It’s safe to say that Van Gogh was a skilled painter that had the ability to create beautiful artistry. I’m sure Van Gogh carefully thought about this painting as he painted it. Every stroke was made for a reason; the colors were picked out with purpose. Nothing was unplanned. Now, can you agree with me that this beautiful painting is a masterpiece?
Ephesians 2:10 says, “For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” Did you get that? We are God’s MASTERPIECE. We are his work of outstanding artistry; his best piece of work. He created us not by chance, but thought carefully about it. Just as every stroke Van Gogh made was intentional, so was every feature of us.
So why are we so quick to tear ourselves apart when we look in the mirror? Why are we so quick to think of everything wrong with the way we appear?
I’m sure every person that saw "The Starry Night" didn’t necessarily find it beautiful and it wasn’t necessarily their favorite art piece. Some may even not consider it a work of art. But so what? Its success clearly shows that it is a masterpiece.
This is just how it is with the world and appearances. Everyone has a different opinion. Some people may not find someone attractive, but that does not mean that they aren’t a masterpiece of God’s. We are each created uniquely. No one the same. I’m super thankful for that. You are you and nobody else. You are special to God. You were created with much thought and without carelessness. No mistakes were made.
So next time you find yourself looking in the mirror picking apart your appearance, take a minute and think, “I am God’s masterpiece. He created me without error and I am perfectly made.”
