As I was re-watching the season three episode of "Grey's Anatomy," "Some Kind of Miracle", I forgot how much the quote, "You are anything but ordinary" struck a chord with me. Meredith spends some of the episode trying to come to terms with the fact that her strict mother has just told her that "it's disappointing to wake up and discover [Meredith] is nothing more than ordinary." Meredith soon goes to a trauma scene and falls into the cold harbor water, stops swimming, and Derek comes in to save her. Until the end of the episode, the audience is immersed in Meredith's mind as she is dying, where she meets with patients and friends who have passed away before her. During this time, Meredith's mother is passing away, and Meredith comes in contact with her. This is when her mother retracts her former statement and tells her, "You are anything but ordinary", and she wakes up after that moment with a steady heartbeat again.
I find it so important that we remind ourselves and other people of the positive traits we have. Meredith Grey had lost her will to live when she started to question her choices in life. So here is your reminder today:
You - Yes, YOU - are beyond important. You are so giving, and sometimes, you do not get the credit you want or deserve. Don't let the weight of the world fall on your shoulders. Don't ever let someone make you believe that you're not leading a wonderful life. You work hard for your goals, and you don't stop until you achieve them. Sometimes you exhaust yourself to a point that you don't feel like trying anymore; Keep. Going. You are so close to where you want to be. Just think: There were other times in your life that you didn't think you were going to make it through, but you did. And look where you are now. You've made it so far in life and have successfully survived an immense amount of ups and downs and milestones. You should be so proud of yourself. However, don't stop here. There's much more in store for you. Always remember that you matter in this world, and there would be more people than you could imagine who would not be who they are without you.
Please remind yourself as often as possible that you are anything but ordinary.
