What makes an artist hard working? How about a day in and day out work regimen? Burning the candles till morn and then cracking open the windows at day. Sleepless nights droning over pages and pages of concepts, that ache to come into fruition. A true artist like Yoshitaka Amano lived that life. It wasn’t an easy one and he still lives to this day creating content that still puts people in awe.
Amano is a Japanese artist. His style is in anime for, yet it emulates an organic presence. There is also a hint of traditional Japanese art style. He is inspired by nature and his sheer talent. The eyes are always sharp, which makes his characters look like snakes. The way his pencil strokes glide across the page adds to the illusion of life on the paper. Then he paints it in with watercolor and vibrancy varies on the mood. For example, he says that he gives fairy tale artwork dim colorations, while his vibrant art is mostly his own fine arts. This adds to the abstraction of his fine art.
From the age of fifteen he started working out as an animator in the Tatsunoko Productions. He worked all day and all night, day in and day out. He said it was stressful and at times and it would get repetitive. In his thirties he would have nonstop commissions. has worked with plenty of clients, one of his most popular being final fantasy. Final Fantasy is the most popular JRPG and he had the honor of designing the art for it. He has also done character designs for Gatchaman and N.Y. Salad. On his free time, he sketches. This habit keeps him on his Ps and Qs and he is always drawing from nature. Some of sketches he does are of fairies mixed with fruits. There is a lot of play and imagination going on when creating.
Yoshitaka Amano is an inspiration to me because his hard work paid off. He is universally known for his work in the videogame industry and the way he got to the place is is because of hard work. He didn’t even have professional artistic training. He just stood out of the company and showed them his stuff. I hope that I can deliver hard work like this in my everyday artistic life that way I can reach a level of expertise never before seen.
