“She looks like a bum.”
“Why would she leave the house like that?”
“Well, that hides almost all of her femininity.”
“Is she even wearing pants?”
Ladies, if you love an oversized t-shirt and shorts look, stay tuned because I am about to defend every last negative opinion on this ravishing look.
Don’t get me wrong, I love looking nice. I take a lot of pride in how I look and what I am wearing. Even on my “bummiest” days, I still feel good about how I look. Rarely will I leave the house hoping no one sees me. In fact, I love running into people. I am that annoying friend that knows someone everywhere I go. On my “bad” days, you will catch me with my hair tied up in an obnoxiously sized bun, my glasses, and a nice XL t-shirt and shorts. That’s right, a nice big old t-shirt. This said look will cover up just about any figure or shape I ever had. Do I mind? Nope. Does the guy that just watched my pump my gas like this mind? Probably.
The oversized t-shirt look is very misunderstood. You, silly boy, probably think I am wearing this because I do not care about how I look. Truthfully, however, I am wearing it because I do not care about how YOU think I look. This outfit is for the mornings when jean shorts required a little too much effort. This outfit is for the afternoons when my lunch was a little too big and my food baby proves it. This outfit is for the nights when my legs wanted a little more attention and my Lululemon shirts were just not the right vibe. This outfit is everything. It is the most versatile outfit a girl can strut.
Let me ask you this, gentlemen. Ever notice how girls don't question your shorts and t-shirt you wear every day? We don't question it because most of us don't care, and all of us don’t really want to be let into your laundry habits. Sorry, but we all know your mom hasn’t visited you in awhile which means you probably haven't washed those shorts since she has. Now, boys, let me tell you why questioning me and my fellow clan of oversized t-shirt wearing girls should not happen. If we tried to impress society every single day with a cute romper or dress, eventually we wouldn’t be impressing anyone. This effort into our outfits would become our norm. I rock my oversized shirt for many reasons. One reason is that the next time I dress a little more “feminine” is so that I give society a variation of myself. I never want to be known as the girl that is always dressed nice, I really want to be known as the girl you don’t know what to expect is coming.
My big t-shirt is a blanket, an invisible cloak, it’s whatever I want it to be. This outfit is not worn to anger you or make you dislike me. It’s not me loving games and me wanting to make you wonder if I am wearing pants. I promise, I always have pants on. This outfit is simply me giving myself an afternoon off. Watch for me later that day, I will have probably changed into something sweet and more “figure flattering.” Afterall, I am a girl and will probably change my outfit up to four times a day. My oversized t-shirt is the equivalent to your 2010 baseball sweatshirt that everyone just respects. It’s cool that thing still fits you!
Now let me rock my XL t-shirt in peace.
