One of my favorite songs is “The Waiting” by Tom Petty. The lyrics to the catchy chorus of this rock tune goes: “The waiting is the hardest part/ Every day gets one more yard/ You take it on faith/ You take it to the heart." I won’t show off my English analytical skills here, but I will make a confession.
I AM GOING INSANE WAITING ON AN ANSWER FROM NYU! Granted, it hasn’t been that long since I applied. I have already been accepted into John Jay Criminal College, which is great, but I have also applied to NYU. I am thinking of applying to Columbia as well, but I really have my heart set on NYU. I am taking ‘faith” in putting it out there. Yes, I applied as a transfer student to New York University. Why? I am interested in earning my bachelor's and my master's degree in English simultaneously. They (like Columbia and, believe it or not, John Jay) have a program where instead of earning 120 credits to graduate with a BA in English, you earn 134 and earn a BA and a master’s in English. I want to have a master’s degree in English, but I want to earn it in the shortest amount of time, because after my undergrad, I am looking at three years of law school.
My best friend here at Medgar Evers College is off to dental school after he receives his BA, and he too has some years to face after he receives his BA. Another friend of mine is going to have some time to put in as she is in school to be a psychotherapist. So what is the big deal? We are all older students. We would like to get going into our careers before it is time to retire (no, we are not that old). You know what I mean. I should also note that in exactly 12 days from now, phase one of my goal will be complete. I will be graduating with an associate’s degree in English. As mentioned before, I have been accepted into John Jay, and they have sent me plenty of emails requesting a nonrefundable seat deposit. I attended the new student seminar, and the program and the incentive to go there is enticing. I just need to know one way or the other (and yes, I will keep everyone posted), as to whether or not I get into NYU, whether or not I end up applying to Columbia University.
My next discussion will be on how one may go about financing their education. This was a last minute article, as it is the last week of school, a ton of last minute work, and wouldn’t you know it, laptop problems again! So I must get back to work on final papers, as well as studying for finals. I also must get back to waiting…which is the hardest part.
