Yellowcard fans grab a box of tissues. The band of 19 years is calling it quits after their upcoming world tour. On Friday, June 24, the "Ocean Avenue" singers announced that after the release of their new album and their upcoming world tour they will be breaking up.
The band formed in 1997 in Jacksonville, Florida after meeting in high school. Shortly after that, they moved to the West Coast to begin their music career. With 10 studio albums, this band has taken the music scene by storm. The original line up for the band consist of Ben Dobson on vocals, Todd Clary on guitar and vocals, Ben Harper on guitar, Warren Cooke on bass, Longineu Parsons III on drums and guest vocals from Ryan Key (frontman for Modern Amusement) and violinist Sean Mackin.
Throughout the years the band's style and members changed leaving them in 2016 with four members and a pop punk sound. Ryan Key, Sean Mackin, Ryan Mendez and Josh Portman make up the band now. On Friday, the band's announcement shook the music world:
"We will be forever grateful to Yellowcard fans all over the world for the opportunities you have given us. We have played shows for nearly two decades on six continents and had the chance to keep recording the music we love year after year. While it is with sadness that we say goodbye, it is with gratitude and amazement that we look back on a career we can be proud of, and were so very lucky to have had.”
Yellowcard fans will celebrate their memory, and I'm sure every fan will try their hardest to make it out to their final tour. This might be the end of Yellowcard as a band, but their music will forever live on.
