Siblings can be the biggest blessing in life. They are someone who will be there for you, a friend, and someone who you can talk to. However, when you are 10 plus years apart, this can be a little different.
1. People think you're the mom
Personally, being 13 years older than my brother, I got this a lot and still do. I get weird looks which makes sense since I would've been 13 when he was born...
2. You can't talk about things
The extent of your talking is more like making bad jokes or something about toys. Occasionally the talking can turn into something confusing and you have no idea what they are actually saying.
3. They love hanging out with the "big kids"
All younger siblings want to spend time with you and your friends but something about that big age gap just makes them want it more. Whenever you go out, they always to go with you even if they have no idea where you're going.
4. They want to do everything you do
They pick up on how you talk, what you say, and how you act. They are like a mini you and it can drive your parents crazy. They look up to you though, so this is actually really sweet.
5. Finding things that both of you like to do is hard
You're kind of limited on what you can both do that is fun but sometimes just taking them somewhere and watching them have fun is better than anything else. It's more about the time you spend together.
6. You get to watch them grow up
Watching you're siblings grow up is kind of weird. You see them when they are just a little baby and then suddenly they are starting a sport. Watching them as they learn how to walk, talk, and write can be pretty funny but super cute.
7. Leaving them when you go to college is hard
I know for me leaving my brother was hard, one of the hardest parts about leaving for college. I hate seeing him upset when I leave but love seeing how happy he is when I come home for the weekend.
8. Being an older sibling is awesome
Having someone that looks up to you is an amazing feeling. Having someone to take care of and who always wants to spend time with you is pretty awesome too.
My brother is one of the best things to ever happen to me and I will be forever grateful for him. He has taught me a lot about what it means to be a big sister, even if we are 13 years apart, and I love him so much.
