2016:two thousand and sixteen:20-16

No matter the way you say it or spell it, this year like any year was a memorable year that I was thankful enough to share with many loved ones. As well as a year full of lessons. I figured by opening up about what I would like to improve on for myself in 2017 will help others who maybe had a year similar to mine. After I express my goals for 2017, I hope it will encourage you as well to step back and write down a few goals for yourself. Now these don't need to be ‘New Year Resolutions’ because according to New Years Resolution Statistics website only about 45% of Americans actually make a New Year's Resolution. Those 45% that do make resolutions only last for about two weeks. By the 6th week, only 24% of those that made resolutions are still working on them. So instead of pretending that we are going to stay true to those resolutions this year. Lets just make some goals for ourselves, shall we?

My first goal, which I have been working on for awhile now, is to remove all negative people from my life. This has not been an easy task. AT ALL. Especially with social media, you are constantly seeing what is going on in lives of others that just make your blood boil each time you see something. So what I did about a year ago was I deleted and blocked every negative person on all assets of my social media. Not because I don't care about them, but because I care about myself more. Disclaimer: you will never be able to fully disconnect from these people, but not seeing every negative comment they make will reduce the stinge a little bit. My goal this upcoming 2017 will be to continue to work on bettering myself as a positive person and pushing all the negative little bees out of my life.

My second goal, is like many others to focus more on my fitness goals. I did great this summer working out as much as I could. Then I got back in my school groove and my health and body went to the waste side. Therefore my goal this year is to make my health my number one priority. I think I will thank myself sometime down the road. God only blesses you with one healthy body-so I need to treasure it as such.

My third goal, focus more on my academics. I get so caught up in my sorority and other social activities and organizations that sometimes I forget why I’m in college. Every assignment is turned in on time, but it may not always be the best work I’ve ever produced. I want to make it a goal that every time I do my homework, it might be the piece of paper that will make me millions one day.

My fourth goal, be nicer. I was always taught ‘if someone picks on you that means they like you.’ I’ve learned this year that some people were not raised like that. Therefore, I am going to work harder on just ‘picking’ on people that can handle it and then being less of a smart a** when it comes to being around people that weren't raised in the same environment I was.

My last and fifth goal of the 2017 year is to budget better. I was proud of how I budgeted my finances this year. But I think I could be doing a much better job. One of the top things I will focus on when budgeting is budgeting during the summer when I am making more money and so I usually don't think I need to budget-because I’ve got the money.

To wrap this up, a New Year's resolution is not mandatory-but for me, goals are. Maybe you have one or maybe you have eleven. Whatever the case, write down all your goals somewhere you will see at least every other day. If you don't meet your goals, that's okay-there's always next year. But let's make 2017 a year full of goals achieved, together!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
