Aside from the party hats and streamers, the new year brings more than just a day to celebrate. If you are like the majority of our population, you tend to set goals and resolutions for the new year that the majority of the time are unrealistic and never get achieved. That is why this year, I am taking the new year as not a time to set a couple of fitness goals that will never be achieved, but a time to push myself to be the happy and healthy person I have been striving to be. It is not about changing who you are, but rather improving yourself. Ditch the Resolutions. Take action with these encouraging tips to live your life to the fullest! Here is what I came up with...

Look at the positives

With the constant negativity in the world today, it can often be hard to find positivity. Bring forth the positive energy that our world needs. It will not only change the way you live and feel, but also those around you.

Don’t be stuck in the past

Shit happens. Whatever happened in the past (from dealing with the loss of a loved one or as small as a bad midterm grade)- every day is a new day and an opportunity to move forward and better yourself.

Strive to make others smile

You never know what another person might be dealing with in their life. Use this new year to not only smile more, but make others put a smile on their face. Whether its a compliment or just simply holding the door for the person behind you.....the little things have great impact.

Take chances

Don't be afraid to do the unthinkable. You never know what one small opportunity could turn out like for you. For better or worse, you often regret the chances you didn't take.

Laugh more

Lighten up! Laugh now, worry later. Don't get caught up in all the stress the world seems to throw at us. Sit back and laugh at yourself for the times you put stress on yourself for things that no one else really cares about. It is true that laughter is the best medicine.

Live without regret

You may look back on some of your decisions and see regret, but flip it and see it more as a lesson learned.

Stay calm

Life is stressful, so while life may throw you curve balls, it is important to take a breath and remember to stay calm and carry on. With a calm mind you will be much more creative in problem solving.

Stay strong in your Faith

Never lose Faith. God is always there for you so learn to acknowledge His presence and know that He is working on your behalf!

Heres to the new year and an improved you!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
