As kids, many of us recall having imaginary or fictional friends. However, by the age of 5 our imaginary friends are no longer acceptable by society, except for some. As we grow older the pink polka-dotted, blue, unicorn named lola is swapped out for a fictional friend we made while watching them on TV once a week. The relationships we develop with fictional characters range from a love interest, I know so many of us that sobbed and mourned Derek Shepherds death as if he was our very own husband, to a friend that we can relate to. In my case, and the case of many others, my fictional best friend was Cristina Yang. Cristina Yang was one of TV's most influential characters. She taught so many of us what it was like to grow up, be independent, and be someone's person. She always said what was on her mind and believed in herself more than other believed in her. As I experience college, I often find myself quoting her. This is the first year of college as told by our favorite imaginary friend, Cristina Yang.
Dealing With College Guys
They see you at a party one night and automatically assume you have been dating for months. They use the same compliment over and over again without any superficial conversation, yet expect to come over to Netflix and Chill later that night. Freshmen boys are all the same.
Sorority Recruitment Week
Wether you are rushing or not, it is definitely hard to keep up with all the sororities' requirements, rush events, favorite nail color, and endless lists of questions you need to answer tactfully.
School Breaks
You thought high school breaks were fun and then you realize there is nothing like a break from college. From a simple three day weekend, to Spring Break, nothing beats not having to worry about writing a paper or going to bed early.
Trying To Be Nice
Part of the college experience is learning to live and get along with all types of people. However, as Cristina explains that is impossible. It is very easy to recognize the look you and your roommate give to the girls you are up all night talking about.
The Morning After
You and your friends roll in at 4 in the morning. When the alarm goes off you look around the room and try to figure out what exactly happened last night when your friend wakes up and asks where you are but all you care about is your missing shoe.
The Ultimate Question
This is the question everyone asks after a long day or in-between classes. Should I lay in my tiny twin bed and take a nap or go to the communal shower and take a shower while listening to someone else's terrible music?
Your First 8 A.M.
The need to set one hundred alarms only to lay in bed for thirty minutes scrolling through Facebook and Instagram for a while and running across campus to class in the rain. It is even worse when it is an eight in the morning class and the bed is oh, so comfortable.
The Feeling of Getting Your First A
They say college is supposed to be hard, so when you get an A it is time to celebrate.
When your professor tries to make a joke
Professors do everything in their power to come across as cool and relatable. Most of them are pretty good at it. However, sometimes a joke flops and it get awkwardly silent as no one laughs.
I could go on and on as to why Cristina Yang is the greatest fictional friend anyone can have especially while attending college. But , I'll leave it to you and encourage you to watch Greys Anatomy reruns.
