I may be a bit biased because I love to write (as you can tell), but I think it is important for everyone to write at least every once in awhile.
I am the type of person who prefers a paper over a test any day. But, even if you hate papers I still think it is so important to write out your thoughts. I have a huge calendar with every single due date and appointment on it. I never miss a beat. I make countless to do lists and write out everything. But most importantly, whenever I get stressed or overwhelmed I write it out.
I find it helpful to write out exactly what is stressing me out and work through each problem. Even if it is just an extra busy day where I feel like I don't have enough time I always find it comforting and stress-relieving. All my thoughts are constantly jumbled together so it is very hard to decipher what i'm actually feeling.
I have a problem my mind is never at a relaxed state. If I don't stop and think about what i'm feeling I am left feeling anxious and confused.
Sometimes I just write lists of what I need to do. Other times I will write long journal entries about all my feelings. As cheesy as that may be, it helps me decipher what I am actually feeling. Sometimes I think I am mad at someone for an action, but really it is something much deeper within me. My mind is constantly running, but if you think clearly all the time then maybe you don't need to write out your thoughts. I know I need to constantly write out my problems and stressors to think clearly and be successful for the day.
Writing has helped me with my schoolwork as well. For almost all of my classes I actually handwrite my notes (shocking in the 21st century I know). It makes me really pay attention to the material instead of mindlessly typing away for an hour and fifteen minutes. When I study for exams I will get a blank note book and sit down for an hour or two and re write all the notes from that section. Every person is different and I am not going to tell you this is the only way to study because it's absolutely not, but it works for me. If you are having trouble studying this is definitely worth a try.
YELLOW LEGAL PADS ARE YOUR FRIEND!!!!! I go through yellow legal pads like it's my job. Like I said I made tons and tons of lists. It just feels much better on a yellow legal pad- I can't describe it. Also, what pen you write with is important. I know I am not the only human who gets excited over a new pack of pens.
Whether you are like me and you write all the time or don't write at all, I hope you can see the importance in writing at least some of the time. I know it has helped me in a number of ways and hopefully could help everyone else in those ways. Everyone is different though so to each is their own.
