We've all seen them, and we've all been tempted by them: large, colorful eyeshadow palettes that seem to have it all. We see them on eBay, we see them on Amazon, maybe even at the drugstore, but are they really worth it? The particular rainbow palette that I have chosen to test is the Morphe 35B Glam Palette, available on Morphe's website. I chose this palette for a few reasons: Morphe is my favorite makeup brush brand, they're super affordable, and I heard that their large palettes were pretty good quality. Since I have some more artistic looks planned, I needed to get a wide variety of colors into my eyeshadow collection and fast. This palette provided just about every color I needed, plus it was on sale for $19.
First of all, if you have a student mailbox...do not try to order from Morphe. It's not Morphe specifically, in fact it's actually FedEx's fault since they don't deliver to P.O. boxes, but Morphe seems to only ship with FedEx. Getting this order here was a nightmare. Was it worth the wait and trouble? I'm not entirely sure yet. Clearly, since there are 35 colors in this palette, I have yet to test them all. That being said, I did try many of them and I found a lot of them to be chalky and not quite as vibrant as they were showing up in the pans. I was able to up the vibrancy with some Mac Fix+, but some of the colors (such as the matte yellow) never really reached the pigmentation that I wanted from them. As far as blendability goes, these do blend pretty well. I was able to create a smooth blend using the bright pink colors, and a nice little red/orange/yellow sunset. I also must say that I'm impressed with how pigmented the matte white color in the palette is, it definitely worked just how I wanted it to.
Packaging-wise, it's not terrible. It's exactly how I expected it to be, just a cheaper kind of plastic, although I do wish there were a mirror in the lid. The pans themselves seem a bit bigger than what I was expecting them to be, and they do seem secure.
Overall, I'll say that I'm indifferent to this palette. If you're in need of a bunch of colors right away, this thing does the trick, but don't expect Limecrime quality pigmentation and softness. For now, it's getting the job done, providing me with all of the colors that I need for the look's that I have planned. I will say that this is probably the highest-quality large rainbow palette that you'll be able to find. The ones on eBay and Amazon are most likely not going to provide you with anything but chalky, non pigmented colors, so it might be better to "splurge" a little for a $19 one vs. a $10 one.
