As I'm sure most of you know, liquid lipsticks have become quite the trend over the last few years. Say goodbye to the regular lipstick which will come right off or smear all over your face if you even take a sip of water. Say hello to matte liquid lipsticks. The formula dries completely on your mouth and leaves a beautiful matte finish that doesn't come off quite so easily. There are many different brands to choose from (both drugstore and high end), but there is one brand that I have been hearing amazing things about. That is Jeffree Star.
When I first saw the Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipsticks, the first thing that I saw was the price: $18 plus shipping. As a broke college student, that's obviously a little steep for lipstick, let's be honest, but I decided to try them out anyway. Turns out I was completely blown away by these!
First of all, his packaging is completely adorable. They all come with a hot pink cap (except for the limited edition ones) that has Jeffree's logo all over it and you can clearly see each color inside of the tube. The name of the colors can be found on the bottom of each of the tubes and they say "Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipstick" down the side in silver.
Now let's talk about the formula. Most of his colors are 100% opaque and will go on in one swipe. There is no need to double dip and no need to use a lip liner. Plus, these last forever because you don't need to be constantly dipping the wand into more product just to apply it once. Now, all liquid lipsticks tend to be quite drying to the lips, but these are by far the least drying ones I have ever tried. I can comfortably wear them all day and my lips feel fine when I take it off at the end of the day.
...I say MOST of his colors are opaque because there are a few of them that I have found to go on quite streaky and you really have to work to make them look nice. I have found that his streaky ones have mainly been the lighter colored ones in his limited edition collections. I haven't had any issues so far with anything in his permanent line. The worst one, in my opinion, has to be (714) which has been in two of his limited edition collections and is not part of his permanent line (yet. He has talked about making it permanent). I was super excited to receive this color and then I was super disappointed when I tried it out for the first time. That color goes on so streaky that I refuse to wear it because it looks awful. No amount of layering can make it look good on my lips.
Now as far as scent goes, some of his lipsticks are scented and some aren't. Honestly, I prefer the ones that aren't scented at all. They have a bit of a chemical smell but it is by no means anything unbearable. He has made some of the lipsticks in his permanent line scented with root beer which I personally don't like. I love root beer and the smell of root beer...but in my opinion, the ones that are supposedly scented with root beer don't smell like that at all. I'm not sure what they smell like, but it's not root beer and it is a bit overbearing when trying to apply them. Luckily, once they dry on the lips you can't smell it anymore.
Overall, I really do love this product and although I won't buy all of them (come on, they're $18 plus shipping. I can barely afford to put gas in my car sometimes let alone drop all of my money on lipstick), if there is a color that I really love, I will gladly purchase it. Once these are on, they're staying on. I wear these for 12 hours a day sometimes and when I get home my lipstick is still on and looking great. Jeffree has created a lipstick in every color from extremely light nude to a bright aqua color, to the blackest lipstick you've ever seen. He truly has made something for everyone out there and that's what I love about these. I would 100% recommend giving these a try.
