The Worst Parts of Being a Girl

As a 19 year old female, I find that there are many aspects that I love and hate. My friends who are girls typically agree in one big sigh whenever I mention these things out loud, but here is a list of the things that drive every girl crazy.

Periods/Cramps

Although this process is healthy and a great sign for almost any woman, the worst part of the month is when you get hungry for almost no reason and you're bent over in agony. Sure your emotions are almost unbearable and every male wants to blame your anger on your menstrual cycle, but that's not as bad as the feminine product tax we all have to pay.

When the Hair Tie Breaks

I love my thick hair and my friends who have extremely long hair will always have a spare hair tie on their wrists at all times, but nothing is worse when you want to twist it to complete tightness and it snaps.

Crushes

I know that everyone can get a crush and it's common among all humans, but I'm sure we can all agree it's one of the worst things to go through. Especially, when they don't feel the same way or if they have a girlfriend.

Bras

The best feeling in the world is when you come back from class and you take off your bra. It's the biggest release ever and it truly does feel so much better when you don't have everything snapped in.

Shaving

There is no doubt in my mind that most girls don't shave if they don't have to. And to be honest it is awesome to know that hairy body parts are becoming more accepted in society instead of ridiculed.

Walking Around Alone

One thing that scares most women is the fact that we cannot walk around alone without being in fear that someone will hurt us, kidnap us or rape us. It's sad to think that we have to live life in fear and with some kind of defense mechanism in order to stay safe.

Carrying Pepper Spray

I am 100 percent grateful for the this gift that my mother gave me when I came to college. Sadly, I was unaware that almost every girl is a target and without some kind of protection, you don't feel safe.

The Wage Gap

It's been around almost fifty years since the last time the wage was increased for women and to this day so many women don't get paid an equivalent amount for the same job as their male counterparts. It's also upsetting to think that many of these women are overqualified for these jobs and they don't get justly compensated.

Despite everything being a female is absolutely fantastic. We are typically deemed as the more intelligent gender and we are slowly becoming more and more dominant in society. I’m proud of our gender and everything we have accomplished throughout history and soon enough the rest of the world will accept every female, no matter their race, nationality or religion, as an equal human being.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
