I'm Embarrassed To Claim This Job On My Taxes

My Worst Job Ever

Now I've had a lot of part-time jobs in my lifetime, but last summer's job topped any job I've ever had. So I'm going to give you a small background first.

Last summer, I was supposed to work as a manager of a water park, I expected to have my car by the time summer starts. The water park I was located at was different than the one I thought I was going to work at. This park was 30 minutes away, and since I did not have a car I had to deny the position.

A few weeks later, I went to go get something to eat with my mom after we ordered I asked them if they were hiring, the cashier said yes and gave me an application. In the middle of me eating with my mom, the manager comes over and gives me her number and the address of orientation. She tells me to apply tonight, and I can go to an orientation that weekend.

So no interview at all, I just walked in and got the job.

RED FLAG #1

So I was happy because I got a job quick, I later went to orientation, and my manager texts me to come in that day.

After orientation, I went to my training day. At orientation, they told me I would be watching videos my first three days. I got to the store, and the video system was down, so I didn't watch any videos, I was just thrown into the job.

RED FLAG #2

My first month there I caught on very fast, so they worked me like my last name was Tubman. I stayed late, came in early, all I did all summer was work. At the time I was saving for my car, so working a lot didn't matter to me, I was okay with it.

I had a couple different managers while working there. I had two black, one white, and two Spanish. The head boss was Spanish, she knew very to little English and would take advantage of me any chance she could, I had to put my foot down a couple times. She had the nerve to ask me if I could come into work the day before I left for college.

Then there was a Spanish male manager, who was very feminine and lazy. He didn't care too much for the job.

Then there were two black managers. One was really nice and cool, she got me hip to a lot of sneaky things that were going on. Then there was the other black manager, who would tell me to do something constantly than would overpower me and do it herself. Or would boss me around constantly, to the point where I would start to catch attitudes.

The last manager was the one I absolutely disliked the most. She was a short, white 17-year-old who transferred from another store. She was so rude it was crazy. Not even just rude to me, but customers too. She got cussed out on a regular by customers, and would always try to abuse her power so she didn't have to do drive-thru. She left me doing drive-thru with rude customers every night I worked.

Overall that job was horrible, they were understaffed every single day. There would be times it would only be 2 workers including myself there when there's suppose to be 4-5 workers. They had me working long hours, then I found out towards the end of the summer that my manager was changing my hours after I worked because the labor was too high. I was so livid I almost called Immigration service on her.

Then to top it off, an old lady that was working there for nine years has been stealing money and she dropped a whole tray of fresh chicken on their dirty, greasy floor and put the chicken back , while my head manager did nothing.

Oh they had roaches too... gross!

Moral of the story I would never go back, I barely want to claim them on my taxes.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
