Summer. The three months out of the year college students everywhere make the migration back home to mooch off of mom and dad and forget about their responsibilities back at school. Many of us relish this time, but it comes with good and bad. Here’s some of the best and worst things about being home for the summer.
Better food
Dorm food and easy mac may be convenient but nothing really compares to mom’s home cooked meals. As an added bonus, you no longer are paying for food, which means mediocre takeout gets upgraded to nice, sit-down restaurants.
Reunions
Being home from school for the summer means catching up with your crew from high school and taking a break from all the craziness you left at school. It also means you get the chance to see family you probably didn’t get the chance to see much at school.
Missing college friends
Even with all the fun with your old friends, you can’t help but miss your friends from school. Every day is no longer a sleepover and most of your friends are too far away to visit on a regular basis. But it means when you finally do see them, it's a guaranteed good time.
Mo Money
Being home for the summer means you no longer pay for rent, groceries, cable, internet, water, electricity – none of it. So all that money you’re earning over the summer? It’s yours to keep, and chances are this is one of the only times of the year your bank account is steadily over your GPA.
Boys/Girls
It’s a pro or con depending on how you look at it. My one friend is upset she can no longer have sleepovers with boys. I myself could care less since my boyfriend graduated anyways.
Less Stress
Being home for the summer usually means less stress. No school, more money, better food and more time for naps. What more can one ask for?
So take it in, sweet summertime. It won't last forever, but it will be good while it lasts.
