The Five Worst Things About Summer

Coming home from college.

The Five Worst Things About Summer

Summer is every college student's dream, until it isn't... You get through June, and you realize some important things:

1) You miss college ALL the time.

Home is great, until your parents set a curfew, and you realize that you might actually have to make your own food for once. The college coffee shop (where you can spend your meal plan bucks) is no longer a short walk away. And you realize that you have to work over the summer. A lot.

2) You miss your roommate ALL the time.

You can’t stand living alone anymore. You’re used to walking into your room and venting to your best friend about your day. Even though the two (or four) of you are stuffed into a tiny little cracker box (with paper-thin walls) together, you’d give up your queen sized bed right now if it meant being back with your favorite person, having pre-bedtime life chats.

3) You miss being around people your own age.

You miss being able to yell down the hallway to your best friend. You miss seeing your favorite smiles at practice each day. You miss eating dinner with your crew. You miss seeing your significant other on a daily basis. Even though college students can be crazy, you find yourself missing that craziness with your whole heart. You’re some version of young, wild, and free, and feel the need to be with others who are the same way.

4) You’re bored out of your mind at home

You went away to school for a reason. You don’t want to be in the exact same place for the rest of your life, or even your whole summer. You’ve re-visited your old stomping grounds. You’ve seen everyone you need to see. You’re ready to head back to your college town, where you’re constantly finding new adventures.

5) You have too much time on your hands.

You can’t seem to find the motivation to do the things you need to do. It’s hard to get up the umph to complete online courses or workouts. You have too much time on your hands. You overthink everything. You binge-watch so many shows on Netflix that you realize you’re lacking in Vitamin D.

So call me crazy, but I’m ready for school to start again. I feel like Harry Potter away from Hogwarts, separated from Ron and Hermione. But maybe that's just because I love Briar Cliff so much.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
