Mental health is an issue that gets a lot of recognition, but it does not reflect on the people who actually take the time to help the people with these mental health dilemmas. In my personal opinion, it is important to recognize all of the counselors, teachers, doctors, and families that go through and try to protect you and others that deal with this every single day.
October 10th is known to be World Mental Health Day to help recognize the people who have a mental illness as well as the people who help along the way. The journey to getting back into the right state of mind is extremely difficult. The long days of worrying, doubting, and trying to fight this are pure hell.
This is a scary statistic because this means that 1/4 of the people in this world have a mental illness. This means out of 7,432,663,275 people, 185,816,582 people have a mental illness. And what are we doing to stop this? To make these numbers go down? Not much. There is such a negative stigma around all of these mental illnesses that are naturally occurring to people. Which is why it is important to have the resources, the people, and the passion to help others.
Would you like to see your family member or someone you deeply love go through this? Your answer should be no, and if it is then do something about it. Help the people that are in need, even if it is to just listen. Sometimes that's all somebody needs. That's what they deserve.
Can you imagine not wanting to get up in the morning? Not feeling like you're good enough to even get out of your own bed. How about the fact that you can't stand when people look at you because you think you're doing something wrong, or you don't fit in. Or what about when you look at yourself in the mirror and just tear yourself apart? Now if that is somebody you know and love wouldn't you want to help them?
This is bigger than you, and there are so many people who need the help. Who need someone to listen to them, to make sure they're alright. That is why it is so important to be someone who helps others. You don't know somebody's story or what they are going through, so always be kind.
Take a minute and think to yourself, is there anyone that I know that I can help? Is there someone who may need me, but is waiting for me to reach out to them? If you know somebody, then do something about it. Nine times out of ten you will make their life and could potentially save them from doing something that they will regret. You could be the change that they needed.
On this worldwide day that helps raise awareness and help people understand more about mental illnesses, take into consideration that you can change a life. You can make that happen, so get involved. Help out. Care about someone other than yourself. Make that first step, and go through with it.
