I like the gym. I like pushing myself to go further than I have ever gone before. My brother would call me a "gym rat" but I would call me a "gym enthusiast."
The people at my gym are really chill but there are some people I can't help but notice clearly go to the gym for the attention or just happen to be your stereotype meatheads/douche bags. If you want to be these meatheads/douche bags please look no further than this list. Follow these examples and you will turn people off at gyms everywhere but I will give you my commentary on your horrible decisions.
1. Skip Leg Day
We all know those cats. They love their upper body....and...ONLY their upper body. They probably did leg day once but they don't like to talk about it due to the bad memories. These cats will normally have the upper body of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine in days of future past and the legs of Betty White. If you want to turn heads at the gym all you have to do is admit that you don't go hard at the gym and just do dumbbell curls all day every day...and ONLY dumbbell curls all day every day.
2. Wear Full Makeup to the Gym
Seriously? How on earth is this necessary? If you're working out correctly you will be sweating so it's probably going to run anyways. These individuals are usually seen at the gym doing the exercises that require the least amount of work but then do them in the most attention grabbing ways, that is, IF they are working out. Most of the time you will see them doing stretches on yoga mats or carry their yoga mats around but you never actually see them working out. Don't be sucked in to their attention-grabbing ways though. No matter how much they show their booties they only wanna make you lazy just like them.
3. Be an Equipment Hog
Remember this: When it is noon o'clock on a Saturday you are not the only person working out! Honestly why do you need to take all these weights? Why do you need a bench, 3 sets of dumbbells, an exercise ball, a 45 lbs plate, and an exercise band? You can and should be able to do one exercise at a time. I promise you that all that stuff will be there when you get back.
4. Be a Douche Bag to Everyone New at the Gym
You're jacked, we get it. You've been going to the gym a while and by the looks of your upper body (and just your upper body) you have probably mastered all the lifts, know the proper diet to stick to, and are friends with all the gym rats but for some reason you think that means you can walk around and laugh at the newbies or say things about the overweight people at the gym. You're crazy if you think that means you can make fun of some one at the gym. Why do you think they are there? It's mostly the ladies I hear talking smack about overweight people and the dudes I hear talking smack about people who can't bench as much as them. Either way do this step and I guarantee you will be an unpleasant person at the gym!
5. Tell People Their Form is Wrong and Then Show Them your Incorrect Form
I do leg day three days a week because I'm weird and hate myself. I have been weightlifting for almost 3 years now and I know what I am doing by now. Once at the the gym this guy finished a set of his squats and goes to get a drink. A girl comes over and takes his spot to do her own workout. The guy asks me if he can squat with me so I let him but then he tells me my form is completely wrong and I need to fix it. I try his way and I swear to you I am impressed he hasn't ruined his whole spine by now. He is as wobbly as a drunk flamingo. Dude I have been doing squats for a few years now and I can assure you that YOUR form is all messed up. He then later admits he only started training legs a few months ago which explains why he looks like who only started training legs a few months ago.
6. Have a Membership but Never Go
As someone who is trying to live a healthier lifestyle I must say that seeing people at the gym once and then never again or hearing my friends talk about going to the gym and then never going just ticks me off. You have a great opportunity to make your life easier for you and better in the long run but you don't take it! II guess I can't be mad at you for that but don't be all talk and never follow through. Either go or don't. If you have a membership but don't go....why? Why waste that money? You literally are giving yourself a double whammy but 1) not trying to make your life healthier and 2) wasting you money. Stupid.
