The holiday season can be a time for a mini vacation, time to escape the workplace and spend quality time with the family. For some of us, that just won't happen, because you are unfortunately scheduled to work. Hospital employees, police officers, paramedics, firefighters, and so many more people will be working this holiday season, but that doesn't mean it has to be the worst day ever. There are ways to make even the workplace a time to spread holiday cheer. Here are a few tips for the working person to help make their workday holiday one to remember.

1. Pot-Luck Party

While families are enjoying the food at the house, have a little pot-luck party at work. Each person can bring a favorite holiday dish, a beverage, and some chips and dip, and bam! A casual day at work has turned into a mini holiday party. While it may not be the feast of the century, it is sure to brighten the workday just a little more. Add some festive table cloths, streamers, and balloons to bring the holiday spirit up a little more.

2. Festive Wardrobe

For those who are able, put on your favorite holiday sweater or even an ugly sweater to add a little holiday fun to the dreaded workday. For those who are restricted to a specific uniform, try adding a Santa hat or some small accessory to your uniform to really get in the spirit.

3. Pandora

While stuck in the office or emergency vehicle, try putting some holiday tunes to get you in the spirit. Not everyone is a fan of holiday music, but for those who are, having it in the background may be just what you need to survive working the holidays.

4. Remember Your Work Family

The holiday's are all about spending time with our loved ones, but don't forget the people we work with are special too. Many of us spend 40+ hours a week with people and have built a close relationship with them. Just like you, they are missing out on spending the holiday with their family as well. So stick together and remember they are family too.

5. This Too Shall Pass

Working the holiday is a drag, trust me I know, I am working Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and all of New Years, but these are just a few hours of the day. Your family will be there when you get off, before you go in, and may even surprise you at work. Cherish the moments before work and after work with your family, try and find time before the holiday or after to spend time with them. Do not let the drag of working the holiday keep your spirit down. Chin up because working the holiday will pass in a blink of an eye.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
