10 Things You Should Do This Holiday Season

The jolliest month of the year is upon us. There is just something about this season that is contagious. I don't quite know what it is that makes this month so magical. It may be the opportunity to spend time with loved ones, the extra helping hands or that Santa Claus comes to town. Whatever it may be this time of year is not to be wasted.

1. Wake and bake.

Yes, wake and bake cookies, brownies, cake and more. This is the one month of year in which baking every day is more than socially acceptable, it’s encouraged. Whether it is for yourself, loved ones, or neighbors the more the merrier.

2. Rave in the snow.

If you want to start the new year off right, filled with snow and EDM, make your way over to South Lake Tahoe and attend the Snowglobe music festival. The festival runs from Decemeber 28th to the 31st and has headliners such as Dillon Francis, Jack Ü, and Kaskade. How could you not be stoked? So if you aren't afraid of a little cold suit up in your most retro snow gear, grab your party people and head to the snow for the rowdiest weekend of the year.

3. A christmas movie a day keeps the grinch away.

Everyone knows the Grinch steals Christmas so if you don't want him to ruin your Christmas this year be sure to tune into the ABC family to watch 25 days of Christmas. Holiday movies will be playing from December 1st to Christmas Day as a reminder to get into the Christmas spirit. You can find the line-up and showtime schedule online, so you can be sure not to miss your favorite holiday classic. So this month grab some friends, some family, some lovers and some popcorn and get ready to feel the magic.

4. Decorate a tree with loved ones.

This is one of those holiday traditions that can never be skipped over. Every year my family and I decorate the christmas tree together accompanied with some hot chocolate, christmas carols, and a very jolly family. I think my dog has even grown accustomed to this day, his tail wags a little more than usual and he breaks a few less ornaments every year. Whether the holidays are spent at your friend’s, your family, or your lover’s house make time to decorate a tree you won’t regret it.

5. Visit decorative houses.

These houses are lit. You know exactly what houses I am talking about. Every town has that one street that just goes all out with the lights. That one street where you drive down and you just feel a little more merry, a little more joyous, and a little more spirited. These are the streets I want you to visit at least once this holiday season if not more.

6. The uglier the sweater, the better

Ugly Christmas sweater parties are the by far the best parties of the year. It’s the only time of year I can whip out that terrible Christmas sweater my grandma knitted me and actually get compliments. Thank god for ugly christmas sweater parties or that sweater would have never seen the light of day.

7. Dear Santa,

All I want for Christmas is to pass Calculus. See, you are never to old to write Santa a letter, miracles do happen, even miracles like passing calculus. But actually help your parents out this holiday season and give them a list of things you would actually want. I am sure they would appreciate the help and even better yet they will enjoy getting to relive the glory days as Mr. and Mrs. Claus.

8. Shh, Santa’s got a secret

The holiday season is a time of giving so give your friends some festive gifts to match the occasion. Round up your friend group and participate in Secret Santa it doesn't have to be anything extravagant you can even make a cap on the money spent per gift. This is a good way to show you appreciate their friendship and even give a little reward for making it through a WHOLE year of being your friend.

9. Offer a helping hand.

Volunteer at your local homeless shelter or soup kitchen. The holidays are all about offering help to those in need. Why not do that by serving food or even some companionship to some of the people in need of it? No one should spend the holidays alone.

10. Take a big breath.

Take this time off to relax. Enjoy the company of friends and family and let go of any of the stresses that have weaseled there way into your life this past year. This month is a great time to get rid of anything not worth taking into the new year. Don’t forget to make some new years resolutions while you're at it.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
