The holidays may seem like they are four years away because of all the stress you have in your life, but the truth is Thanksgiving is this week, and Christmas and New Years are right around the corner. I know it’s hard whether it be a tough work load at your job, or the school work piling on because of the end of the semester approaching, or even just every day things that stress you out, it’s important to forget those and get into the holiday spirit. The holidays are a happy time to spend with your family, and we should be able to do things to make us excited and ready for the upcoming, not so stressful times.
Here’s what you can do to help:
- Bake Holiday Cookies:
Whether it be the pillsbury cookies with the turkey and or the christmas tree on them, or an elaborate gingerbread house or pumpkin pie, baking holiday desserts can be a fun way to get into the spirit. It can also help a person relax and destress. Do it with a family member or your best friend and I promise you’ll be ready for the approaching holidays in no time.
2.Drive around and look at Christmas decorations:
Okay you may need to wait a couple of days after Thanksgiving to do this, but it is definitely on my holiday to do list. It is so nice driving around with your favorite people at night and seeing reindeer lit up on lawns, and santa claus in people’s windows. It truly makes you happier, because Christmas is a happy time in general, and when other people’s houses depict that in your neighborhood, you’ll feel it to.
3. Watch holiday movies:
Elf is obviously a Christmas classic, but there’s also Charlie Brown Thanksgiving and a million other holiday classic films that will totally get you in the spirit of the holidays. It’s totally worth it to sit in your pajamas with your feet up and watch a good holiday movie to get yourself ready for your very own Christmas or Thanksgiving day.
4.Decorate:
Putting up the Christmas tree is one of my favorite things in life. It is something so simple, yet so much fun at the same time because it brings everyone together, and makes you feel happy. There’s something about having lights hanging in your house, a tree with ornaments, and stockings hanging that makes you feel lighter, and happier.
5.Spend time with those you love, let them know you love them:
Nothing says the holidays like being with those who mean the most to you. This holiday season forget whatever is stressing you out, and let the people you love know how thankful you are for them, and how happy you are to be spending the holidays with them. It’s not everyday you get to sit around your aunts living room opening gifts, or sitting around your dining room table eating turkey and sweet potatoes. Make the most of those moments, they count for more than you realize.
There are a million other things you can do to get in the holiday spirit, like listen to Christmas music, or buy gifts for those you love. But these five are a start. Remember the most important thing during the holiday season is family and friends, enjoy it and always remember how happy you were when you woke up the day of the holiday and realized you had the whole day ahead of you with those you love.
