Dope. It just sounds gross.
Dope. Why does our generation and those younger feel the need to abbreviate words or change the meaning of words to use in conversation? I don't think we need to use the most proper English or longest of vocabulary words. But creating our own set of words seems uneducated --like you don't respect the English language enough to use the words already provided that you have to change the meaning of other words to mean "great" or "amazing".
I don't like to judge people, but I can't help but think you sound a little dumb when people talk like that. Life is about growing up and becoming more professional and I have to say, I would not hire someone that can't use normal words in conversation. If I have to keep mentally translating the language you are using then I don't want to have long conversations with you.
I am not saying these people are not smart but there is a stigma that comes with using these kinds of words. I think of someone that doesn't really know what they are doing with their life. Someone who will live with there parents for a long time playing video games in the basement. Someone who will not be hired because they can't prove to an employer that they are worth the time.
I realize I am starting to sound like an old whine-y lady, but the word "dope" is used to mean pot or drugs --not "cool".
Lit used to mean something caught on fire, not, a crazy party.
Trill is what a flute does. I am not sure what caused this shift in vocabulary but it makes someone seem lazy, like they couldn't think of better words to use they had to make some up.
We talk in texting lingo "lol" and "brb" have crept into our daily language. Why? Someone please tell me why it is cool to talk like this!
For the love of all that is good in the world please stop talking like this. If I have to hear the word "dope" again I might scream!
Every time you say a stupid word, somewhere out there a communication or english major is dying a little inside. Someone is cringing and I am trying not to pull my hair out. I want our generation to grow up and become professional and successful. Yet, I feel like we are not going to get there saying "swag".
Swag isn't cool. Dope isn't cool. Trill is not cool.
Would you tell your employer they did something that was really trill? Did you go to a lit party last night or did you go to a wonderful and fun event that made you want to go again?
What do you want people to think about you? Think about what you are saying about yourself next time you want to use the word, "dope".
